Binders to store collection [solved]

Good day or night users of Numista

This may have been answered a lot in other treads but I would like something specific unless told otherwise.

I have chosen my coin holders Hartberger staple ones to be exact (I might get some adhesive ones to try out) but I’m stuck in the clouds with some questions/ options that need to answered by people here.

For binders they would need to hold 100 pages at least because I would like to buy enough for 20,000 World coins, 2,000 for U.K. coins, 900-1000 banknotes and one for a presentation of the countries.

For pocket pages I’ve chosen BCW pages that hold 20 coins to a page but the only big issue is that they only fit into 3 ring binders and most of them only fit between 80-90 pages each or cost way more than my budget. I’m willing to change if there is a alternative.

More information might be added if there is a good answer or a alternative has been chosen.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
I'm curious. Are you really planning to buy binders that hold 100 4X5 pages? That would be a binder 30 cm thick and the weight of a filled binder would be about 16 kg. I imagine it would be a lot cheaper to buy ordinary sized binders even though you'll need more.

The price of BCW 20 pocket pages here in U.K. on Amazon is £369.84 ($521.29) for my 24,000 coins (sorry I forgot to include the precious metal binder).z|

If a binder could hold 2000 coins I would need 12 of them but if the one that BCW advertises that holds 1800 coins I would need 14 of them excluding banknotes so this plan is to avoid buying more supplies and not to move the coins often when I run out of room. I did this because I spent nearly 4 months researching which countries I would need and it comes out around 64 coins from each country that I can own without running out of room.

So if I plan to go with this the banknote pages would be £83.49 for 900 notes add the amount above plus the flips I would need plus the 14 odd binders that I would need equals £673.48 excluding flips.

So even with this it would still be very expensive. So is there any alternatives to this?

Do you have a link to the BCW binders you're talking about? I couldn't find them on the BCW site.

Edit: Never mind I found it: https://www.bcwsupplies.com/3-inch-album-coin-black

That's a 3 inch (7.62 cm) album. How are you expecting to get a 30 cm stack of coin pages into a 7.62 cm album?
Or...to show it in a picture:

That's only 50 pages. You're planning to put twice that into one binder?
I use Safe binders, not the cheapes ones but reliable and good up to 30 pages. More than 30 pages I don’t want to imagine how heavy it would be…

Yes I was talking about that binder.

Secondly that’s why I posted here for advice and useful links to binders.

After seeming this I doubt 100 would fit unless there is a industrial binder that exists in the wild.

Just curious are those pages BCW and if so have you had any issue with them?

They are pages made by Edgar Marcus & Co. They are new, I just bought them for the first time recently to replace older ones that started to turn yellow. Can't say yet how well they'll do long term.

My advice to you was to re-estimate how many binders you'll need since it was pretty obvious you misunderstood how many pages you could get into 1 binder. I hope it was worthwhile. There's nothing wrong with the BCW binder. A 3" binder seems like a good, manageable size. Even if you could get a 30 cm binder for 100 pages I doubt you'd be happy with it because of its size and weight.

Also is 25 pages in a binder appropriate or 500 coins in a binder.

Do you have any idea how long it takes before you'll have those 24,000 coins? You're complaining it's all so expensive but for the moment you only have 2,750 coins. A good alternative would be to buy the supplies you need NOW (and of course some more so you'll always have stock at hand when you need them) in stead of the supplies you MIGHT need in the next 20 years.
25 pages is probably the most you should put in a 3 inch binder with a D ring. Realize that the binders are the easiest part of your collection to replace. You may want to buy just what you need now and buy additional ones as your collection grows. You may find ones you like better and in 5-10 years you'll more than likely have much more disposal income than you have now so you'll be able to buy the better ones you can't afford now.

Call me a little OCD and a very hard planner but that’s what I meant enough supplies for next 20 years.

Maybe I can organise a payment plan to stop me bankrupting myself .

Plus to add on I’m not planning to putting duplicates in the binder those get flipped up can be placed in drawers or my several ice cream tubes I have laying around (also I have several Kilos of predecimal U.K. coins not logged here).

Well I might I have to times the binders by 4 for now because do you know when you walk into a DIY/hardware store and there is a catalogue of items are available well in my local Screwfix there’s two large binders that holds well over 1,000 Pages so that’s what I had in my head.

Like what I said above call me a little OCD and a planner but that’s what I need.

Finally maybe I would change my binders after they break from use.

I use maximum 20 pages in a binder for my doubles and 15 pages in a binder for my collection. The most vulnerable part of the binder is the open/close mechanism and weight has the greatest influence on that mechanism. Once that mechanism starts to fail you can throw away your binder, no matter how expensive your binder was or how good the covers of the binder still are. With less weight your binders survive much longer. My oldest binders are about 50 years old and still are in great shape. I want to see how long a binder filled with 90 or 100 pages will last.

Noted 📒🖋

Also the several other binders we have (family photos are stored) are over 25 years old newest 1996 oldest mid 60s of my parents and some that date back to 1920 (photos I mean). I’m surprised that non of the plastic pages contain PVC because 95% of the photos are immaculate and all but two binders are immaculate as well.

You're 17! In your very hard planning ever considered you'll have a girlfriend/wife who might not like you spending so much money on coins? Or you'll have to build/buy a house and raise kids and you have to combine this with an expensive and time consuming hobby like coins? A good advice again: buy the supplies you'll need NOW (and in the NEAR future).

You can't blame me for something you did yourself. Like rsirian1 already said, you're the one who revealed your age, not me. Now that I know it's sensitive for you, I won't do it again but how could I know it's sensitive for you if you told it yourself in the past.

I use these Lighthouse Grande Gigant binders for 2x2 pages:

In this picture there is 36 pages:

If you try, you can maybe add there few more pages. But as others pointed out, the mechanism may be broken in some point.

Good luck for your goal. Enjoy, there's lot of coins and bankontes around to wait picking.

Update here is my statistics.

25 20 pocket pages each binder (500 coins) 23,000 total coins for base metal world coins.
25 20 pocket pages each binder (500 coins) 2,000 total for UK coins.
25 20 pocket pages each binder (500 coins) 2,000 total for precious metal coins UK and world.
25 3 pocket pages for each binder (75 banknotes) 900 total for UK and world notes.

So in total I would need 66 binders and the cheapest I’ve found is £9.99 so using some quick maths that comes to £659.34.

Hi Frenchlover

As of now I’m might only get binders for my banknotes to stop them from Yellowing due to sunlight but no binders for coins because they can get expensive if bought in bulk but also very heavy (when filled) so I’m only going to buy the pocket pages and hopefully they fit into the boxes where I have the vast majority of my coins in and sorted by country and the VF-UNC ones separate form the G-F coins.

I will Post a update in several weeks time.

I have my doubles in 10 boxes with 50 pages in each with 20 2x2 in each. They are heavy.

This 17 year old boy is simply crazy if he thinks he can have his collection in tight packed pages, or he has a randomized system for his coins, but then he'll never have a country in one box, nor the same types on the same page.

Is there any other 3 ring binders in the U.K. similar to the BCW one because it’s out of stock at the moment and I’ve found Amazon basics 3 ring binders but the measurements confuse me because the BCW one is 34cm and these ones are 30-32cm so is the BCW pages going to stick out of the binder?
