How about putting a monthly limit to a number of posts a member can post? Maybe as a function of member's rating?
Forums are becoming clogged with irrelevant stuff.
MAN! YES! Totally agree. If you start a topic with "WHAT" it is then a question, almost all of these belong in the Numismatic Question forum.
The Free Discussion forum is the only place on Numista we can talk about OTHER subjects without breaking rules. Now is it bogged up with "what is the Greenest coin, what is the smokiest coin, what is the fluffiest coin, etc
for a while , even coin and badge id's on here. Man, if you are new, dont write anything, except how to do things. Read the rules and know which forum to write in. And be patient, the conversations will come, dont force them.

Recently these (everyone knows who I am talking about) members just flooded the forum with childish irrelevant posts, and it came to a point where I just see their "names" and simply do not bother opening them. The limitation in the number of posts may force people to think on what topic they should use their limit.
I'm getting tired of seeing the same types of posts over and over again. Infrequent posts like that are fine of course, but this many is way too much. +1
Thanks for bringing this topic up in a dignified manner.
I wrote to Xavier about this - no reply from him.
I echo the feelings expressed above.
It was relentless spamming of the fora.
I feared we would be discussing about each year after the decades ran out!!
Or stuff like how many 2mm thickness coins in your collection.
Never seen anyone race to 200 forum posts in such a short time.
Quote: "13coinmike"Maybe as an alternative, we could add a feature to filter a specific user out. Similar to blocking a person but I just dont see their post anymore !!!
yeah, in my mind this is spamming by a couple of members. Technically speaking they are opening legitimate threads of each thread is viewed on its own, but taken together it’s just too much. So if they could have a filter functionality as you mentioned, it would be so great to be able to skip over such threads and de-clutter
It is difficult to draw a line between good and useless posts, especially when useless posts get valuable replies, and threads which were started in a spamish way now have genuine content after other users' replies.
But, in general, I support the idea that something should be done about that.:)
Maybe just PM Worldwide collection or ignore the posts rather then demanding a limit of posts?
I just find them silly as well but this member is most likely a child or a grown-up with childish behaviour so a little talk wouldn't hurt but don't put a leash on everyone just because of the actions of a single person.
I agree with 'idolenz' but find the posts amusing (for the enthusiasm this member demonstrates towards the hobby). I see nothing that wrong/annoying with a large # of new topics other than it can cause a lot of repetition & may discourage serious collectors to try to find a thread on the topic they wish to peruse. (But there does seem to be quite a large contingent of Numista members who don't check previous topics & don't contribute but rather just start a new threads/topics (on a subject previously discussed extensively).
A daily limit (X2 or X3?)on the number of new topics/threads one can initiate might help reduce clutter. But shouldn't this thread be on the Numista Website thread?
I agree with Idolenz too. I think we're all talking especially about the same member who is indeed exaggerating, probably out of boredom, but there is no need to punish everyone and make more and new rules just because one person doesn't know where to stop. I can only hope he reads this and uses his common sense, that would be a much better solution than new rules and limitations.

I suppose you mean, how many NEW postings? I'm a bit divided about that, since some days I have quite a few variants to document (I consider them serious?), so why should they be limited? In another way I do agree, that some new threads are ridiculous. The problem is just, who can censure new postings?
Dangerous theme, isn't it?

Not every heavy poster is posting garbage, 99% of my posts are all coin related and most are visual posts.
Put a limit on time wasting new members and people showing fake and toy coin junk and the naive question askers with rubbish like "I bought this 1795 US dollar off wish for $1, is it real".
As for fluffiest coin - where is it.
A lot of us add to the knowledge and love of numismatics.
If you want to limit anything, limit stupid joke and funny photo threads. Funny photos are usually offensive and make fun of cultural stereotypes, like bad Russian Drivers, Engrish signs and underdressed girls. Especially try and stop viral nonsense like Tiktok or anything else here.
I notice the people calling for this have like 40 to 200 posts and I am well over 1,000 - naturally I am going to feel slighted.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
Member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand and the Auckland Numismatic Society
Also I had a look at the alleged 2 members you guys describe.
One has 220 posts and the other has just 36 - the 220 post guy joined in March 2020, that is hardly spamming. I joined in 2014 but did not really start posting until late 2018.
Also they are visual threads and we don't have enough of these here - unlike CCF which is perfection in a coin forum - this place is dullsville. Why not have a how far back can we go thread, one day a year going backwards and maybe limit it to 5 coins or 5 sets per member.
At the very worst, they may be harvesting the images of the coins being posted, but its unlikely - just people wanting to see some nice coins. If you are that worried about the security of your images, watermark them.
This is the worst and most baiting thread other. How are we supposed to attract new members if we get snotty over too many posts. Normally most new members post 1 - 10 times and disappear and its often someone with a pile of junk or fake Chinese imitation coins, who gets annoyed we tell them their treasure is tatt.
Okay if the guys are posting stuff like "Oh that's nice, can you send it to me" and "I run an orphanage in Kiev or Sri Lanka and my deprived kiddies love coins, can you send me 100 of them please" or "Thai guys want to marry you" or "Russian Vigara cheap" - then report it, that is spam and that is soliciting for freebies (Called Freebie Vacuum cleaners on Stampboards). I have found in the past, the spam goes very quickly when reported.
If you don't like those "Show your 1900s coins" threads - do 2 things.
1. Don't read them
2. Don't post in them and move on with your life.

I’ve noticed that people think that I am a heavy poster. At the moment I just have a lot of time in my hands and I like contributing to the website such as adding edge photos and new coins to the catalog. Also I like to Guam knowledge form posting on what I should or should not add to my collection this hobby is on the side with many other hobbies such as aviation and my great deal of knowledge in cars.
Also at the moment I haven’t added any coins to my collection for a while and I have activated dead topics such a one I posted that haven’t had any more posts since December 2015.
I’ve had this commented about me before but I do not spam I’m just a heavy poster that contributes to the catalog often. Also when you think about I’ve been a member on this site since March 2020 that’s over a year and my post count is 220 so if you divide that I have post 0.60 times per day so if you think about it I haven’t posted much compared to other people who are in the thousands compared to me.
Have a good day or night,
Worldwide collection
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
at the very least, it is rude..and impolite. That is definitely a rule. Politeness is mandatory.
Ive been on forums since 1988 when we had BBS. everyone now should know some basics.
called etiquette
LIKE WE DONT USE CAP LETERS, or lots of !!@#
or flooding a forum in a few hours, is very impolite. (like interrupting an adult- surely you DO NOT let you children ramble)
pretty much common sense
-and I still want my fluffy coin :)
I dont believe in a physical limit, but we have lots of rules and filters on here, weird. They get imposed all the time, I get smacked quite often. So big deal, I learn and move on.
Heck, we cant even post more than 1 sales post a week, is that a limit????
be cause - the forum might get flooded, yall cant have your cake and eat it too, which one is it, we are a community of rules, or are we free to write anything? NOPE
wait and see if this post goes on longer, Numista will just come in and delete it all. Is that a limit? or a rule?
yall pick. damn.
:(

If you're going to use your "statistics" to show you're not an "excessive" poster please don't distort those statistics. Your first post was on March 9, 2021. You've posted 221 times in the following 10 days or 20.1 times per day. 13coinmike hit the nail on the head. It's about etiquette (the customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group). I think even you will admit that you haven't been following the code of behavior exhibited by the rest of the Numista community.

Cool, on the good side, at least we are having an open discussion. I actually liked some of the subjects, and Im genuinely interested in some years. No need for any rules or limits, I think we are understanding each other.
However my option to select a subject should be valid. , it was not against you personally, There are subjects on here, besides yours, I;d like to not see in my (MY) list, not any of yours.
Im a premium subscriber , to get rid of adds, I'd love to be able to tailor my experience even more to see only what I want to see.
Like TV, I got 250 channels, and 225 of them suck, so I block them and only surf what Im interested in. It is the new wave, pull your own content...of your choice...been around a bit, not a new concept at all.
So, Im interested in 1940 coins, but not 2000? cool, I should be easily able to filter that, I use a small old I-phone, hard to see anything of interest when it is a long list.

I personally like coins from the 2000s and when people look back in 10-20 years time they can appreciate the coins.

trust me, If I flooded this forum with 400 pictures of my house, cat, dog, etc, I mean totally flooded the forum in one day, then you tell me, you would not want to be able to filter this?
Remember this is the free discussion Forum, not just coin talk here, we have plenty of forums dedicated to such questions.

Sometimes my posts are interesting to a certain audience for example it might be amateur/young collectors or professional/older collectors or vice versa.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
I mean, darn. look how many coin related forums, why free discussion?
I really feel your subjects (if indeed they are for others to look at 5-80 years from now) wont look here, in Free discussion, I'd look in the Questions Forums, if for history sake, surly the wrong category.

I have used the other categories for identifying two of my coins, I have used the valuations and permission to use photos from other websites.

Guys take a step back, you guys need to chill. Every one is getting worked up about nothing and every one in this form post loves to pick a fight. sheesh Numista is not what is used to be ever since toxic members spill there anger on the web. stop hating on others who love coins. besides in the form all I saw before was stupid posts like "should Ireland join the Uk" 😂😂
can some one loc this discussion because people are losing there head over some petty things here
Also if you thinks about those “show me your coins from” I don’t need to post another one till 2030 and another member is doing the same for coins pre 1950 but when I gets to the pre 1900 it goes back in centuries.
Finally I have contributed heavily to the catalog as much as I can by doing edge pictures (such as the Cuban 3 pesos coin and the copper 2 pence)and the main pictures of the coin plus on occasions I do created new pages for coins such as the 2021 Spain 2 Euro Toledo coin, South Sudan notes.

I’m just sharing my hobby and contribution to the catalog at least my post are related to coin collecting and has activated dead treads and created new ones such as “how coins/notes packed in your country because I’ve found that interesting.

That's funny, you are the one who started this. and you want us to chill? You Chill.
You admitted you have been told in the past you have a posting problem, but it is now our issue?
It is apparent you bothered a lot of people, just because you have 3 defenders means nothing.
there is a reason for this thread, and it was to address you, so you chill.
Quote: "13coinmike"OK, so I can block a user but not a subject ?
funny.......
why does this matter ? There's this old technique that has been used for thousands of years. It's one of the most effective ways to block something. It's called IGNORING IT and its very effective👌🏻. My grandmother used to tell me "If some one is doing something you don't like, just don't look at it"
I think this is less of a Numista issue and more of personal issue between members

lol, can u spell ?
Based- The quality of having an opinion without regard for what other people think.
Of course you would not know any of these modern terms because yesterday you got the news from the Pony Express and listen to beethoven's Symphony No. 9.

How are you supposed to ignore that many posts? They always keep coming back to the top of the forum and there's nothing that someone can do if they don't want to see them anymore.

What do old posts have to do with this? If there is an informative thread that happens to be old I see no problem with reviving it.
Buddy, your getting so upset over a person who is interested in coins...... hmmmm I wonder why Numista is a COIN website not a website to post shit like "Im going on vacation" or "should Ireland be a part of the UK"

I also joined the infinite 10,20,30 etc. Of course it was too much and I think it's already understood by all those involved, and there will be a general understanding, the reason is that all people are "original" no counterfeits and original imitations.
I responded to the master in one of his posts ,, regarding the cleaning of coins in an inappropriate manner ,, -I expected personal hostility, excuses and pissed off.......
He took it sportily and he understood , and he also found the problem of why coins are misunderstood when he photographed them in low ( yellow) light and immediately addressed the improvement of scanning conditions.
I really appreciate the approach and behavior, only that redundancy was really unnecessary -there may be another explanation.
So I think a happy ending is coming ,, and maybe it was enough to write only a specific request to a person and a clear division, we are mostly adults,,
after all, people who have interests are mentally richer and fraudsters are known quite often right away..
I wish a colleague to publish his opinions and enthusiasm -and who does not want to read, let him not read anything and just skip.
And I apologize to everyone for the bad English.

I understand you’re frustration but I had a lot of questions and I’m helping out Alfred on his posts. Plus the help me identify this gothic florin I recognised my mistake a couple of days ago and reposted it in coin identification and valuation.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
@ legowwww22223, I think you really pretend to be something with your 20 days here??? Some little bit more decent behaviour would be highly appreciated.

Does any one really care ? its not like other NUMISTA members have been really nice to me 😂
Yeah I agree, Legowww2223, are you having a bad day?
I can't believe this silly thread got to 83 posts in 1 day.
Yet there are kazillions of visual coin threads that go days without a post here.
Bread and circuses seem to rule the masses.
I am also defending Worldwide Collector and Alfred and anyone who has a problem with their content, can ignore them - they have done good as the number of coins shown on the forum has shot up because of the threads. It seems now most have fallen down the list - so crisis averted.
But I have only done a few, may dredge out coins from the other eras to revive them -
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I do not see any interest in sich a discussion. Lines have been undoubtedly crossed.
I therefore remind you the forum policy and draw your attention that a breach may have for consequence a shorter or longer ban.
