Nicaragua [solved]

Can anyone shed some light on disappearence of Sandino from Nicaraguan coins after 1987?
Sandino was a communist rebel leader during the US occupation of Nicaragua in the 1920s to 1933. During the Sandinist regime and civil war in the 1980s he was very much honoured (mostly by left-wing supporters) hence he appeared on Nicaragua's coins.

After the war, when a more moderate government took over, coins with peace doves succeeded the old coins. On top of that the Nicaraguan currency had become so worthless that the old coins were not used anymore anyway.

Still - all this doesn't explain why his hat remains on the coins!
I wrote some more on Nicaraguan coins 6 years ago:

The 1987 series features Sandino's hat, which symboolises Mr Sandino as much as his whole effigy. After that none of the Nicaraguan coins ever featured anything related to Sandinism.

In 1987 the Sandinstas were still in power. I think the new government took over early 1990s after a peace deal and elections.
