Storing banknote collection. [solved]

Hi users of Numista

Recently I’ve been thinking about buying a album to store my small collection of banknotes but I ran into some issues most of the cheap banknote pages/albums are cheaply made and have PVC which is bad for storing banknotes long term which I want to do. Also many of the better quality banknote pages are expensive in bulk or are made for specific currency like for US notes which I own several but I collect world currency ( hence my username). So can anyone recommend or advise any good banknote pages ideally no PVC and retails for a decent price because I would like to add many more notes to my collection.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
Mylar banknote holders are better - as they are chemically neutral.

Aidan.
Thanks I will investigate on which Mylar banknote holders fits my Collection well.

Aidan is correct. You want to stay clear of PVC as they're acid based & this will yellow your note over time.

I search "Currency Sleeve" on eBay & get a whole long list of inexpensive sellers. Lighthouse, BWC, Safeguard & Dupont make them with a certain thickness so the note is not bending or easily folding on itself like you'll get with the super cheap ones (avoid). They should work out to be about $0.50 per sleeve (give or take a few cents) but it is better to err on the side of quality than quantity. Also, last time I checked, there are still old PVC sleeves being sold- so avoid those!

BTW: on a side note: I will not be as concerned about polymer notes (compared to paper) so some of my polymer can be stored in envelopes or cheaper sleeves (rather than paper which should go in the good mylar ones). I have so sleeves many from past transactions.

I answered this question on another forum.

Hi Serial_Number_8

Thanks for the advice I’ve found some BCW pages on Amazon that are reasonably priced to store my banknotes in. At the moment I store my banknotes in a box called really useful box and the higher grade notes in a vintage late 80s early 90s NatWest travel money holder that is not made out of PVC because they were left in a cupboard from 1991 to 2019 in my house and they haven’t yellowed at all.

back to the pages Do you have a way of organising the notes in the folder because in the future I’m thinking of buying lots of notes approximately 900 ish and I don’t want them to look messy in folder.

I think you're going to need some large format pages (typically 2 banknotes per page) if you are going to collect large format higher denomination notes (like pre-Euro from France). You can use the 3 note/page (normal size) for regular sized notes. There might be opportunity to get small size (4 notes/page) for older small denominations (like from Italy/Spain). How you organize the pages is entirely up to you (but you may want to go by denomination rather than by year for nations who vary the size format).

I agree with you mainly I was going to buy 3 pocket pages for currency but with smaller notes they would fall out and the bigger notes would not fit or have space for labels to go next to them.

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for posting Serial_Number_8

I would like other users to post their opinions about how I should store my mini banknote collection.
