Hi Raric,
1) Most members of this site are extremely trustworthy, as are most Canadians, so I'd say that person has no reason to lie to you.
2) Registered post from Canada is very expensive, so I would be willing to bet that person tried to save money on postal costs.
3) The post is taking longer and longer these days, so if this is a matter of a parcel not arriving on time, please be patient. My last parcel sent to Spain from the US took a whole month, whereas pre-Covid swaps to Europe arrived in 7 to 14 days.

I hope you find this helpful.
Thanks,
John
Hi. I have over 170 swaps from Canada. I've never sent registered due to how expensive it is (over 20u$ for just a few coins). All my letters have arrived safely at their destinations "knocking on wood". I take the precaution of taking a photo of the letter as I post it as proof (for what it is worth). As John said, the entire postal system is in complete disarray. Letters from US that used to take a week at most are taking 3 weeks and the ones from EU are taking 5 to 8 weeks instead of the usual 2 to 3.
If your swap partner has a few good ratings already there's a fair chance you just have to be patient.
Cheers from Canada,
Alex.

I have recently agreed an exchange with a collector in Canada. He stated during our swap that due to the very high cost of registered mail from Canada, the package would be sent by normal mail, which I agreed to, but he would send first, which he agreed to.
The package a arrived safely, and I posted my package to him. Waiting for confirmation of its arrival.

I would definitely swap with this collector again and again.

Just on another note. It arrived quicker than a registered package from Russia that spent 7 days in customs.
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.
For all you banknote collectors. Link to my swap list.

Here is a website I found regarding Canadian Post. Not sure if this is old news or not.

FYI: the Mississauga Gateway plant is the central processing plant for ON (central Canada). It serves the Greater Toronto Area & the city itself. Several staff contracted Covid-19 in January & one passed away as a result. There's been a province-wide lockdown which has just recently been lifted. I have had several US sellers refuse to sell to Canada only recently (due to postal disruptions). Many other provinces have also had lockdowns due to the 2nd wave. I would expect delays both ways (coming in & going out).

I had plenty swaps with Canadian swappers. They always sends regular mail because the fee for registered letter is insane high. No single letter was lost. One of most safe places on Earth where to send/receive coins.
