Here in the U.S. this has been going on for years. Like anything else, a few make good money while the reality for the rest is a fools game. I don't know many people with the means who are willing to spend significant money on sneakers.

My work colleague asked me about the coin hobby and asked if I was planning to make money from the collection.
He showed me the above article. According to him no point hoarding coins if not for profit!!
That is his prerogative and perspective. I love the coin hobby and do it for personal pleasure and enjoyment and refuse to make it a business as I already have one of those. One day I may I may sell my collection for a profit if family does not want it but that has not been my motivation for the past 55 years.

Likewise. The joy of researching, cataloguing and discussing with like minded people is enough for me.
Just enjoy everything about it
If I was passionate about footwear instead of coins then sure I would. If you know a market, you can make money. Be it with huge outlay or tiny outlay.
I could probably sit on ebay buying and selling proof sets and turn a profit every week, because I know coins/proof sets. I'm sure if I knew sneakers I could do the same

Bear in mind that people specialising in footwear probably spend just as much time on the hobby as you and probably have great private collections themselves!
