Dear Numista colleagues,

after agreeing on a swap with a Japanese collector, the doubt now is what is the safest way to ship the coins out of Japan.
Japan Post applies restrictions to it.

Does someone have experience here, and could recommend the best way for shipping?

Thanks in advance for your support.
Best regards!
I have purchased a coin mint-set from Japan before, I was un-aware of restrictions to coins but now that I check the Japan Post custom declaration, they listed them as "Collected Medals", That seemed to get past fine. :)

I had many packages from Japan even with the customs declaration "old coins" but if it gets through can often depend on who takes in your package in the post office.
I believe the term "Numismatic Supplies" is a classic choice too. ;)

I haven't swapped with anyone from Japan before. However, from what I know, most Asian countries do have pretty strict rules on sending coins overseas. For my country, sending anything with monetary value is not permitted at all. This includes stamps and demonetised coins.
I've sent and received packages from overseas containing coins and banknotes before. Honestly, as long as you were to pack the coins well and do not declare that there are coins inside, everything should be fine. However, I believe that it is still important to note that there is a risk every time I wish to send some coins overseas.

Exactly. I had one swap with Japan and everything went fine. And sometimes I buy in Ebay from Japanese dealer, also everything is OK, arrives fast and safe. Just do not write anything unnecessary on the letter (only the address), and that's it.
I’ve bought from Japanese auctions and all was fine. (Via japan post or whatever it is)
I used to live in Japan for 4 years and during that time I swapped almost every month (3-4 times) the postal officers are very nosy and they love to know what's inside the package...

My answer was always either tokens or washers..., around 2017-18 they were more restrict but I was always able to ship anywhere in the world.. their shipping prices are affordable compare it with USA.

Just tell your swap partner to prepare a nice envelope without any noise from inside and declare tokens for a value of $5 - $10 and that's it.

As conclusion for this thread, coins have been finally shipped by Japan Post International Parcel, declared as collectible coins with value 2000 Yen.
They reached me safely exactly two weeks later, without any problem.

Thanks to all who contributed in this thread with your comments.
Best regards!
