It looks like Barbados will be becoming a republic during 2021.

Have a read here;

Barbados would still remain a Commonwealth country, even as a republic.

I imagine it wont make a difference to the coinage as they've been using their coat of arms for a long time already

Jamaica also depicts the Coat-of-Arms on its coins as well - since 1969.

Jamaica is also not a republic.

I wonder if any changes will be made to the coinage...
I am not surprised, with the Queen being 94, she surely can not live much longer and has served as an excellent figurehead for the monarchy, a sane and decent ruler amongst a family of over entitled and silly misfits who are not fit to rule over nearly two billion people.

I expect a rash of Republics when Charley finally becomes King - most people can't stand him and Camilla, and even William has lost some popularity due to his silly wife and the antics of Harry and Meghan have also put people off (Although I think the gutter press has been really harsh on Meghan, mainly as she is Black and American and considered a bit too "uppity" for the racist media controlled by right wing leaning white people). Every single woman's gossip rag I deliver and see has a new story about her each week, mainly about how much of an entitled cow she is, selfish or divalike and usually its made up garbage, she is the Diana and Michael Jackson for the 2020s.

Many Commonwealth countries are already republics anyway,

Seychelles, Malta, India, Pakistan, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Cyprus, Guyana, Belize, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and many more.

New Zealand will soon become the "People's Democratic republic of Aotearoa" or at least the "Republic of Aotearoa" as the pc wave continues, Australia has toyed with it for years and depends on their PM, the current Liberals are pro monarchs - but dopey Charley will challenege anyone's loyalty!

I think with the rise of Me Too and the PC movement that has erupted against whites and their racism towards Blacks and other minorities will also destroy what are considered vestiges of paternalistic colonialism like the British royal family (Prince Philip is a notorious old racist and the reception of Meghan is also proof of old and undying racist prejudice from this group of Danes and Germans).

So we can thank George Floyd and all the oppressed minorities of the world for this change, which may be for the better as power starts to shift from White to everyone else as well.

Belize & Papua New Guinea are not republics, as the Queen is also their head of state as well.

As for the idea of New Zealand becoming a republic, that is totally ridiculous!

I,for one will NEVER EVER support a republic here in New Zealand under any circumstances!

As for Prince Charles & Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, I have found them a real pleasure to meet - & they get a lot of unfair press in England, thanks to the tabloid rubbish pretending to be newspapers!

Prince Charles will make a wonderful King, despite what a lot of people say & think.

I trust him to be a just ruler - as no politicians have ever done the right thing for the people here in New Zealand!

Well you will be in the minority - bring on the republicanism and lets abolish outdated monarchies and our ties to Mama Britain, which is a shadow of itself. As for being a "Just ruler" he has almost no effect on what goes on here. We are an independent country, a monarch can advise and veto - but I am sure any real interference in our country by an aged Englishman would be heavily resented by the peoples of New Zealand. I actually support the monarchy and have a lot of respect for Her Majesty. I just have little confidence in her successors who show little sign of effective rule and statecraft.

You seem to breaking your promise not to interact with me. However you are not calling me names yet - so I am going to let live.

My heart expands with generosity and forgiveness, however Jacinda and Labour have done as good a job as any government could during a hostile time with the pandemic.

All National wants to do is throw money at the rich, we had 35 years of year of that. I like to look forward and be positive, rather than gloomy and pessimistic.

This disease and recession will pass, Trump will be out of office and China and Russia may just simmer down.

The rumour in Canada is that the country will adopt the coat of arms on the obverse in favour of a royal portrait once the queen is no more

Republicanism has caused a lot of problems in the world over the past 200 years - especially in Africa, parts of Europe, & in the Americas.

Of course, republicanism has caused a lot of instability & trouble in the Pacific islands - especially in Fiji & in Nauru.

Republicanism will NEVER EVER be supported by the majority of people here in New Zealand!

As for Jacinda & Liebour, they are also saying one thing & doing another - & Jacinda is a known Communist & a crap public speaker with an awful voice!

I ripped Jacinda a new one back in 2015 when she was on the Select Committee that was trying to rig the Flag Referendums process & trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the people - & I was totally not fooled, but I was extremely angry though!

Having a shared monarch with at least 14 other independent countries has proved to be very beneficial - & it is dirt cheap, compared to say, the Presidents of France & the U.S.A..

Presidents come & go after a limited time, but monarchs have genuinely proven themselves to be very adaptable to the times.

Those calling themselves 'New Zealand Republic' are village idiots who lie & are generally avowedly racist to the core - & they want civil war & racial disharmony here in New Zealand!

As for those calling themselves 'Black Lives Matter', they are hypocrites, as they are racists themselves!

Aidan.
You are not worth the effort

Be gone troll.

You willingly support a geriatric racist on the other side of the world and gravitate to her yet you slander our Prime Minister and refer to her by her first name, which is the height of disrespect - hello irony!

Abolish racism and ignorance, no doubt you probably are fuming over Maori Language week too.

Get lost!

It is hypocrites like you who bring shame on the people of New Zealand - especially on the Maori community!

Jacinda is a disgrace, considering she is a Communist with no morals!
Lay off the politics talk please. And be pleasant to each other.

Thanks!
I try too.

BC is the one who is frequently abusive, racist and immature towards me, his post above yours is living proof of it.

If someone said that to you, would you just sit there and take it. He makes defamatory statements about our leader, yet attacks me for not respecting an ancient German family in the UK with jumped up power fantasies.

BC - I suggest if you want to see what Communism is - go to China, where they perform medical experiments on people, ban assemblies, ban any commentary on government and people work like slaves for starvation wages. How about Cuba, North Korea and Vietname - would you say the Prime Minister is like that, a woman who allows criticism all day long and never bats an eyelid.

NZ is full of right wingers from the National and Act party who seem to think that Labour or any left leaning party is communist, the members all marxists and Policies straight from the most regressive parts of 1930s Stalinism and 1966 Maoism. It is sad that in 2020 we still have this "Reds under the bed mentality" of 1946 - 1952 Joe McCarthy era.

Becoming a Republic does not mean automatic Marxism, it means a government run by locals for locals and more sympathetic and useful to that country as a nation state, plus they still stay in Commonwealth and Her Majesty still has that honorific. BC acts like we will be overtaken by Politruks and a Politburo with revolutionary cadres of khaki wearing Kalashnikov yielding soldiers goose stepping around a giant eternal flame set in a communist star or something.

Canada has many pockets of right-wingers, left-wingers, Neo-Nazis, Republican rednecks & just about any political stripe you can think of. The list could go on. I hope that the majority think like me & will suspend judgements on such suspicious political affiliates since we seem to get along. The police tend to take care of the fringe minorities who occasionally believe that their political ideology trumps the law of the land. But I must say, even though this political freedom can be inconvenient at times, it's one of the wonderful things about living in Canada. We're a nation of free-thinking individuals who don't need to arm ourselves to the teeth in order to keep trespassers at bay. We don't get locked up for expressing ourselves (even though we can be politically radical at times). I won't get into specifics but it hasn't been all 'peaches & cream.'

I used to be more Republican (or anti-monarchy) as I grew up since I could not for the life of me justify the connection with the UK (nor the unnecessary expenses of the royal visits, etc). But as I've matured I've come to learn that our connection has been essential for keeping us democratic with fairly equal opportunities. Historically, it's been a bumpy road (privileges for the elite classes/less for the indigenous) but it has improved over time. It's anything but perfect (no human system can be that) but it has seemed to work so far. I also believe we helped break the long disastrous impasse during horrific WW1 & played an important role in shutting down Hitler during WW2. In fact, I think the Commonwealth (Australia, NZ, India, etc) all helped in significant ways. So while I may not be a big fan of the monarchy I do acknowledge its relevance.

I am also proud that my ancestor had a hand in responsible government & how we've come to enjoy a pretty decent standard of living with our parliamentary system. There's an old saying "don't fix it if it ain't broke."
