Bank Negara Malaysia uruchomił program monet pamiątkowych "Dekada ONZ na rzecz kobiet" we współpracy z Organizacją Narodów Zjednoczonych (ONZ) w celu poprawy pozycji kobiet w krajach rozwijających się poprzez program monet pamiątkowych Dekady Kobiet Organizacji Narodów Zjednoczonych, który zbiega się również z pierwszą dekadą Międzynarodowego Dnia Kobiet obchodzonego 8 marca każdego roku, począwszy od 1975 roku.
