A set of pure silver and 22 carat gold medals were minted to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Granting of the Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth I in 1565. Hellier the Carteret, represented on the obverse became the first Seigneur de Serk. The Dame de Serk in 1965, Sibyl Hathaway authorized the issue of these medals to commemorate the date of the anniversary on the 6th August 1965.
Each medal came in boxes with a watermarked certificate of authenticity and were individually numbered.
