Van Arsdell Classification: Trinovantian U, Coinage of Cunobeline, Restoration Period (Heavy Staters), Linear Type Gold Coins. Van Arsdell lists several variants:
VA 1925 - 01: Five pairs of grains. Horse right, CVN below. This is Sills DK 551 (no privy marks).
VA 1925 - 02: Four pairs of grains. Horse left, CVNO in mirror-image below (S 281).
VA 1925 - 03: Five pairs of grains. X above V in CAMV. Horse right, CVN below. This is Sills DK 551 (cross above V).
VA 1925 - 05: Five pairs of grains. Small X below A in CAMV. Horse right, CVN below. This is Sills DK 551 (cross below A).

S 281 has no privy mark (VA 1925-01, 1925-02; BMC 1772-6). S 282 has an X privy mark above a letter (VA 1925-03; BMC 1777-81).

Sills Linear (14 obverse, 22 reverse dies): North Thames Coinage; Type: Cunobelinus; Staters: Class 2 - Linear. The corn on the earliest dies look like a wreath, which may be where it comes from. The horse most resembles Eppillus's Cantian Victory (ABC 387). Crosses or pellets in the obverse field or after CVN are likely privy marks. More than one pellet is likely decoration, while a number of dies are damaged.

Sills DK 550: More than five pairs of grains, with the following variants:
- Six and seven grains either side of stalk, CAM, pellet above M and cross below. Pellet after CVN (see CCI 96.3146).
- Seven grains either side of stalk, CAMV, pellet below A. Cross after CVN (see CCI 95.1054, CCI 01.0446, CCI 96.1311 and possibly CCI 08.6602). This is Chris Rudd's 'CVN+’ (Chris Rudd List 174, 14 December 2020, lot 32).
- Six grains either side of stalk, CAMV, pellet below A. CVN (see CCI 12.0559, CCI 99.1377 and Chris Rudd's ‘Pellet under A’, Chris Rudd List 160, 13 August 2018, lot 36).
- Seven grains either side of stalk, CAMV, pellet below A. CVNO (see CCI 11.0182).
- Seven and six grains either side of stalk, CAMV, pellet (possibly flaw) below M. CVN (see CCI 73.0352, CCI 73.0351, CCI 97.0811 and CCI 13.0624).

Sills DK 551: Five grains either side of stalk, with the following variants:
- CAMV. CVN, no privy marks (see CCI 02.0171, CCI 13.0546, CCI 02.0417, CCI 99.1089, CCI 66.0146, CCI 14.0912, CCI 66.0144, CCI 04.0543 with obverse die break under CA). This is Chris Rudd's ‘No Privy Marks’ (Chris Rudd List 168, 9 December 2019, lot 35) and ‘Small C’ (Chris Rudd List 174, 10 February 2020, lot 49) with the size of the C a very minor die variation.
- CAMV, pellet above MV. CVN (see BMC 1772, CCI 74.0086 and CCI 73.0367).
- CAMV. CVN, pellet after N (see CCI 73.0366).
- CAMV, cross below A. CVN (see CCI 10.2102, CCI 73.0348, CCI 14.0905, CCI 72.0110 and CCI 98.0131). This is VA 1925-05, S 282 and Chris Rudd's ‘X Type’ (Chris Rudd List 145, 12 February 2016, lot 47).
- CAMV, pellet in C and above M. CVN (see CCI 08.8155).
- CAMV, cross above V. CVN (see BMC 1777 and CCI 96.1306). This is VA 1925-03 and S 282.

The equivalent quarter is Linear (ABC 2810).

Sills chronology: Gallo-Belgic Ca - British G (Early Clacton) / Aa Westerham - British La (Whaddon Chase) - British Lb (Westbury) - Addedomaros - Dubnovellaunos - Tasciovanos - Cunobelinus (Biga - Linear - Wild - Plastic - Classic).
