Jan IV z Brabancji, mąż Jacqueline z Bawarii, zrzekł się hrabstw Holandii i Hainaut na rzecz Jana III ("Bezlitosnego") z Bawarii w 1419 r., po długiej walce (część wojen Hook i Cod). Jan panował w obu miejscach do 1425 r., kiedy to został zabity przez otrucie, a Jacqueline odzyskała swoje tytuły.
