Latarnia morska w Aleksandrii była wysoką wieżą zbudowaną na wyspie Pharos (stąd nazwa "faro" w języku hiszpańskim oznaczająca latarnię morską) w III wieku p.n.e., szacowana na 100/110 m wysokości. została poważnie uszkodzona podczas trzech trzęsień ziemi w latach 956-1323, jej ruiny przetrwały do 1480 r., kiedy to ostatnie kamienie zostały użyte do budowy fortyfikacji w tym samym miejscu.
