From a mintage of 30 pieces, the Royal Mint received 1,329 applications for this gold proof pattern strike of the Silver Jubilee crown. 25 were made available, at a purchase price of £25, to the general public by a ballot with the remaining 5 being consigned to museums.

Krause describes this piece as a Pattern for KM#842, Spink refers to it as a Specimen strike.
