Does anyone know what this is? It looks like the writing is in hieroglyphs. There is a seated pharaoh and standing pharaoh on 1 side, and person with wings on the other. I have searched the web with no luck. Any help would be great.
I collect coins and tokens which circulated in Africa from 18th century to 2000. I sell about 7000 illustrated world coins from http://www.avscoins.com.
Thank you. Is there a place I can find that info showing this? I dont denounce what you are advising, I just want to gain knowledge on how to identify ancient foreign coins/ tokens. I'm pretty good with usa coins, but starting to dabble into foreign stuff.
Both sides are covered in ancient Egyptian-like symbols. If it was a modern coin there would be some writing in a modern script (at least some Arabic if it was from Egypt or Sudan, and no other country would put ancient Egyptian symbols on a coin).
As Andrey said this is a tourist token, not an coin, especially not an ancient Egyptian coin. These are usually sold at tourist sitest in Egypt. There are a couple of giveaways, for instance the rims and coin surface are both modern, the motives on the coin are modern pop-culture not something ancient Egyptians would use and as far sa I know no ancient Egyptian coin used hieroglyphs.
I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.
