Really hard to decipher much legend due to the heavy wear, all we can see for certain is that it was minted in London. Can you give us weight and diameter please?
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's an Edward III groat, which would have been approx. 27mm and 4.5g when first made, but it could just as easily be from Richard II or one of the Henry's. The obverse legend would have been something like EDWARD D G REX ANGL Z FRANC D HYB (Edward by the Grace of God King of England and France, Lord of Ireland) and the reverse legend something like POSVI DEUM ADIVTOREM MEUM (CIVITAS LONDON) (I have made God my helper (City of London)). Since you have the coin in hand, you could try taking a closer look at the legends to see if it looks vaguely similar. Would be grateful for others' opinions here.

Many thanks for your advice and interest. I’ll try and make out what I can from obverse legend (any tips?) You’ve opened up the possibilities. It was originally purchased as Edward VI. Thanks again
