Hi there,
I need a techy advice! I have just added this 14th century coin: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces33816.html
I have entered the 11 various mintmarks, but as you see, none of them is visible. It seems that my addition is totally ignored.
What am I doing wrong, or is this software bug?
Thanks for the answers in advance,
Imre
hmm - I don't know how you did it. but to be sure - just write down the varieties here, I will try
to add them. If it works out I tell you afterwards about the "how". ok?
This is EH# 432, the coin of King Louis Anjou of Hungary, he ruled from: 1342-1382.
This type of coin was minted from 1371-1382.
Problems:
1) in the mintage year, I cannot indicate a possibility (e.g.: 1371-1382), only an EXACT year, which is VERY unrealistic before the 1480s! (That covers FYI, 3/4 of history's coinage!!!!)
2) It seems if I do not provide a precise year, then I have no chance to enter variations (e.g. mintmarks & mintmasters)
As a result, if I have an "unknown" year, then I end up with only one type of coin, which means the more we go back in time, the more limited the entire system becomes.
Hoping you can figure out that it is ME, who is doing something wrong here is the list:
so the variations are:
EH# 432a = no mint mark
432b= L_S
432c= P
432d= +-S
432e= 'crown' - 'crown'
432f= 'lilly' - 'lilly' - that is the lilly of Anjou
432g= 'flower' - 'flower'
432h= .-. (e.g. dot slash dot) (on the REVERSE)
432i= .-. (e.g. dot slash dot) (on the OBSERVE)
432j= /-/
432k= + (on the neck of the african figure)
Dates are unknown, these are the varieties of the mintmarks and the mintmasters known.
How do you enter this to Numista?
I hope you manage, and I am looking forward to learn the solution, as this is pretty common in medieval and ancient coinage.
Well. it surely does convey the information, thanks for entering it, but it does NOT look nice.
The mintmark signs should be under the mintmark column.... and for some reason, I, as a normal user, just CANNOT add it. e.g. I can add, but when modifying the data then it disappears.
My apologies, if the tone of voice was inappropriate.
I don’t think we need a police, James, but I would be honoured to know what considerations are going on in the background.
I have spent close to an hour altogether: 1) retyping that list of mintmark from a book into Numista, 2) then adding the coin, then seeing that it did not appear 3) I have tried the same boring exercise two more times.
Then Makake77 was nice to offer help, so again I have been retyping the entire list in the forum (see above) then Makake77 was adding the coin, it looked correct for a while.
And now it is gone again.
The two of us have done 1 job 5 times – and all in vain.
This is clearly demotivating.
The BY WHOM question relates to the fact, that if I don’t know who it was, then I need to spam the entire forum for continuing this discussion instead of going the much more productive way and writing a PM to the person (unless it is a bug that does it by itself)
I DO appreciate the verification process of the teammembers, as I have been expressing it to some of them, and indeed this is the reason why I have chosen Numista. It is great that there is some proofreading going on, it makes me trust the system. It could be improved by adding the factor of accountibility into the system. For example, if I request a change, then it appears: „Validated by XYteammember” – so I would know who is the nice guy working for me, or it would appear: „Rejected by XY teammember” – so I could write a PM asking, what did I do wrong or what shall provide as an evidence that the given coin exists.
Sorry, to be the bad guy here, but I plan to add about 400 more coins, which are „unknown dates” from various mints (medieval coins, ancient Rome, Greek etc.)
So for me finding a solution for this issue is really VERY important.
