I am sure this has been put forward before, but I found this piece metal detecting today and I am pretty sure its either a re-strike or a forgery or ? There are so many variations and such that I thought I would just throw it our there and see what surfaces. Thanks in advance for your responses!
It is attracted to a magnet so I do not think it is silver. Weight 27.5 Grams, Diameter 45MM, Thickness 2MM.
If it's attracted to a magnet it isn't real, MT thalers are silver regardless if it's original or a restrike. Also, diameter should be 41mm. Still, it's an interesting find considering it's found metal detecting.
I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.
Thanks, its definitely 45mm and must be a more recent strike. It has good detail and was pretty well done but I have not found any reference to it yet. Not worth much but I will keep it for a conversation piece.
Hi
Copies are known fakes levant tolar. Find out Yemeni Falsa. This was Europe's most popular coin, and, paradoxically, it still holds true in Yemen. There were counterfeits to pay and the difference is in their weight and therefore increased size ,, This is 44 mm,,
( So I suggest you googlem search for Yemeni Falsa tolar Marie Theresia )
