I thought it would be interesting to see how everyone is using the new Numista separate collections feature (came out about a month or two ago). At first when I supported the proposal I had in mind putting my coins that I might consider swapping into a separate collection, but then I decided to make a more orthodox Numista swaplist instead (which is just as well because right now you can't view someone else's collection separately I think).
Anyway here is my own (for those who haven't tried the feature out yet you can configure it in your Settings):
I collect mainly pre-1945, so it was easy to divvy up the bulk of my collection (excluding the rest of Europe, and my China and US collections) by their colonial allegiances.
Thank you for the highlight, Sophie. I didn't realize such feature has been made available.
Numista, no doubt, is defo the best website to manage my collection. Kudos to y'all hardworking peeps.
This is how I use it. I find the evolution of the European influence during the period 1900-1950 the most interesting, but consider myself a collector of world coins. For symmetry reasons, I also split up World in pre- or post-1950.
Euros are still in a seperate collection, because when I started with my system, there was still a heated discussion whether Euros were real coins and of any interest for collectors. Yes, those were the days. I'm considering to recategorize them as post-1950 Europe shortly.
Hi everyone,
This is how I sorted it for now :
Cartes is the french for maps as a thematic tag.
Franc includes all currencies with this dénomination regardless of the country.
I've separated World between pre and post 1945.
That feature is really a great improvement in my opinion.
I tried to lauch a similar topic in french but it's better with pictures like you did. https://fr.numista.com/forum/topic80920.html
I didn't know about this feature, but is looks useful.
When I create my collections, all my coins are in the default one. Can I move them into another collection in bulk, or do I need to do them all one at a time?
I'm at a loss. Did anyone submit instructions on how this works. All I see is you go to your settings and type a collection type in the box. Then what?
I tried it out and saw that the new collection appears near the top of My Coins page. I clicked on it but nothing happens.

One at a time for now it looks like, you need to go into "My coins" to do it. Took me 2 whole weeks to do mine.

Hello friends
I'm also interested in this feature. I'd like to have a separate FAO coin + Medieval and acient coins. It's an area where I want to profile.
I would also welcome the procedure, I'm afraid of losing everyone when I start to manually delete coin collections and leave only the interest.
Please give us a cookbook for a regular user with weak English.
So
1st you go to settings->my collections->add a collection
Here you can set multiple collection names.
2nd you select a coin you want to put in your (let's say FAO for instance) thematic collection
3rd you edit your coin and select in which collection you want it to go
That's it hope it helps
Then you proceed with the next coin
I have to admit i was lucky to start when this improvement has already been approved because there no possibility to edit groups of coins at the same time for now.

There is no deleting involved, just editing. (Nic nemažete, jen měníte nastavení u mincí v kolekci. )

Thank you very much,, Didi99 ,, That was understandable and good. I can split the coins and continue, good and useful feature, good work.
Thanks.
,, For us slower-born, we need rather visual help I haven't seen this before,,
Let's say that you want to divide your coins into collections X, Y and Z. When you know that most coins will be in collection Y, then it is wise to define Y as the first collection, since all coins will automatically go into the first collection you define. It saves some time if the majority of coins is right away in the right collection.
Quote: "aephi"I use this feature to draw a map, showing how many swaps I had with each country..
That's a very interesting way to use the feature; you can reconstruct maps (more or less accurate!) of colonial empires; here's my British Empire collection for example:
Greece is due to the Ionian Islands, and Indonesia is due to the British East Indies.
Probably using it the least interesting way possible, but I have a collection called “Junk Silver” where I place coins that I am keeping just for their precious metal contents. It is handy to see how many ounces I have in that collection quickly.

I want to be able to sort my collection by rulers! Just hate to see the coins being sorted by denominations and not by rulers and denominations
Yes! Organizing coins by meaningful periods (e.g. rulers, as the UK Spink catalogue does) rather than denominations makes more sense to understand coins in their historical context.
While my trays are organized by rulers, my Numista collections are thus:
Many of the countermarks are on US and other foreign coins, so a separate collection makes it easier to retrieve them.
