Luneberg Bracteate

3 posts
This was identified years ago as a bracteate of William of Luneberg (Germany) 1195-1213. Weight 0.56g, 19mm. Can anyone confirm that this is correct, and provide any catalog numbers that might be available? I do not have any books on bracteates other than a couple of basic pamphlets.

Very likely but I did not find the exact same type in the Berger Catalogue.
here the closest ones I saw inside it

But as you can see the tower is at the bottom and not left, also yours have a ring at top and bottom.

If you would like to I could ask on a German Coin forum for you using your pictures.

best regards,

Paul

Yes, would you please post that photo and ask for me? My concern is that it resembles a bracteate of Luneberg Otto the Kind 1212-1252 (son of the one I cited above) Bonhoff 113, but also resembles a Bohemian Ottokar II 1253-78. My problem is that among bracteates, there seem to be quite a few lions with small towers, so close resemblance may not be accurate enough. Thank you for helping with this!
