Apollodotus II, INDO GREEKS, COIN VALUATION

5 posts
Hi,

I have this Apollodotus II Coin of 80-65 BC. Apollodotus II was an Indo Greek ruler. The denomination of this coin is "Di Chalkan" (Two Units). The Obverse contains the portrait of Apollo holding Bow and Arrow and the legend around is in Greek “BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΣΩ / THPOΣ KAI / ΦIΛOΠATOPOΣ / AΠOΛΛOΔOTOY”. The Reverse holds Tripod at centre and a "Taxila" monogram at right; It contains text in Kharoshthi language which says “Maharajasa / tratarasa / apaladatasa”

I am a little dubious about the authenticity of this particular coin. Experts, please share your views whether this coin is authentic.

It is possible real, but I am no expert.

These coins were made in big numbers, so you have to have a very nice one to get some value.
I never want to know the value of the few coins like that I have.
It is just fun to have them.....(8

Thanks for the reply and your valuable inputs Petrus. I do not intend to sell this coin but want to enjoy the fact that this coin passed through so many ages. But I have also heard that there were many attempts of forgeries on this era coins, so I just wanted to get an expert opinion about its authenticity.
I'm not an "expert" in this coinage but it is authentic in my opinion. The strike, details and patinas are correct for this kind of coin.
Thanks a lot Choucas. From your's and Petrus's opinion I am now finding a little relief that this coin is more than Two Millennia old :D
