Japan 1943 1 Sen Y# change.

My World Coin Book indicates there is a 1943 1 Sen coin weight is 0.5500 g and the Y# 59a
Our catalog does not indicate this.

I have 2 coins that weigh 0.600 - in-between both ha ha

Personally I always wanted to merge the #59 and #59a like it was with 5 Sen #60 but never went through with it.
Concerning the "does not indicate" it's under See also ... but, yes there could be an edition to the title.

I will wait until the new guidlines regarding editing the catalog will come out and then either split Y#60 (personally I find this would look dumb and not many search coins only with weight) or merge Y#59 and 59a like I always wanted to do.

I also think the weight is more a gradient getting lighter and lighter as the war progressed than distinct steps. Maybe only certain time windows were documented and got later published but I don't have enough coins to check for this hypothesis of mine.

Thank You ldolenz - what ever you decide. I guess I need to search better and understand. Ed

Hi,

please keep them separated as they are.

The most outstanding difference is in the thickness!

Of course y59.1 and y59.2 would have been the better numbers, since we don't have an alloy change between the 2 coins!

One of the reasons, that a numista number should be logical, for this we could use NU59.1 and NU59.2 and stay coherent with the KM#, right?

Hm... I am going to mark this thread as Accepted, but will make no comment on whether Y#59 gets merged or Y#60 gets split.

I thought the new guildelines would have come out a while ago, which is why I have neglected this thread so far, so let's call this Accepted because, when those guidelines come out, something will be done with these pages. And we should really not do much until then, because otherwise, we may have to reverse any changes made.
