Quote: "loruca"looks like toned silver to me!
Don't see anything wrong with it
Nope, you see how the parts that are still silver looking are the lower parts of the details of the design, the parts that wouldn't be touched with regular handling, but the tops of the design and any large areas where there is no design are a copper colour, this is where the plating has worn away through handling.
This was a pretty common forging technique, I've seen lots of these, usually 19th century British coins though. I haven't seen it on a 20th century Egyptian coin before.
I'm going to have to disagree.
Due to the picture quality, I can't be certain, however, the colour is completely wrong for any de-plating I've ever seen, additionally, the coin's detail is excellent and the supposed plating has failed to come off in places where it would be expected.
The colouring of the coin looks much closer to that of a cleaned 833 silver coin, than of a de-plated copper fake.
OP: better pictures/auction link via P.M. please!
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Very nice details for fake, and very bad photo for judging ...
Id say, that such color usually have billon coins after long time being in PVC album. or harshly cleaned silver coins vith Ag`600 or 720, I seen such colored Georg V and VI colonial shillings.
Id say it is not fake. probably it is pattern , or probe, in such case it worth much more then usual metall..
Anyway, we need good picture of bothe sides made in daylight, and alsi photo of the edge.
weight and size as well.
best

Looks real to me i have had the same Egyptian coins like this before its from cleaning them with bicarbonated soda and foil. It reacts with the copper content in the coin
