I bought this weird object at a flea market with a bunch of other coins. I recognized the monogram of George VI (as in the 6 pence coin) but it is much larger and cut. The back is flat but 2 mount points (soldered?) are noticeable. I guess this may have been used as a button or a belt buckle, but I wonder of the origin of the piece (where it may have been cut from). Any ideas???
6 pence for comparison with approximate area of the token:
Diameter of the piece = 25.5mm (if it would have had the proportions of the 6 pence, it would have been 52mm in diameter.)
Thickness = 2mm
Weight = 5.35g
Rather artistic, to reproduce a small view of a coin including one digit of a date. rather 20th century, i feel. an original design as it is, rather than a segment of something larger, but i am only guessing.
The two solder marks do suggest a belt loop rather than a button shank. a pin-back might be a possibilty too, but those are generally horizontal with respect to the design, but we don't even know which way is up do we?
