I have purchased a 1887, 2 pound sovereign KM#768 from a local jeweler who deals in coins. The coin's diameter is 29.3mm [all references that I have found are that it should be 28.4mm] It's weight is correct [15.98g] and thickness is fine at 1.8mm. I have been back to the jeweler who said it is common for coins to be slightly different in size and he assured me it is genuine.
I note there are two similar coins on Ebay with the same 29.3mm diameter. Is it normal for a coin to be slightly larger than the reference or is this a fake/counterfeit coin?
