Hello,
I bought a 1968 quarter for 50 cents at a estate sale on a chance for it to be silver. It looked silver to me. It seems like there are 2 versions one is silver one is not. The catalogue says to test with a magnet but the non silver ones are made of nickel which also doesn’t stick to a magnet so I’m lost. Please help.

The magnet WILL indeed stick to the nickel coin. Also there is a weight difference. Silver 5.83g , nickel 5.05g.

It depends on how much nickel is in the coin. The U.S. coin has too much copper to Nickel. Not so with the 1968 Canadian Quarter.

true.
fact -pure nickel is magnetic, just like iron.
copper-nickel alloy gets less magnetic as the copper content increases. at 30%nickel/70% copper ther is no hint of magnetism.
