Hi!

I am about to buy this coin , but want to ask you expert guys this:

First;
Do you believe the coin to be real? (I have no reason to doubt the seller, but I know lots of fakes exist, but have not been able to find out enough about how to spot a fake from real),

Second;
which grade would you say the coin is? (unsure if photos become blurry as i upload them...)

@ngdawa

your time to shine! ;)
It looks good to me, although if someone is selling coins of this class, they definitely should provide their photos taken with a camera, not a potato. Ask him for the diameter (it should be 29,00 mm) and weight (11,00 g). Ask for the edge as well (plain with repeating patterns, as here: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces28356.html )
Grosz do grosza i będzie kokosza.
Excellent and quick reply!

I have asked for the size (dia and w), both are good.

As for photos I have asked and asked again, and have received a few sets of photos of similar quality so I will have to make my decission based on what I have.

Mostly I am worried about the fake/real issue due to the number of decent copies around . As far as grading goes I am not at all qualified, but will guesstimate it to somewhere in the VF-range, like 30/35? There is some wear and dents here and there....

Will check with seller if a decent photo of the edge are doable :)

Thanks a bunch for great info!

I see no reason to doubt this one. What did you pay for it (if I may ask)? The price may be a give away, but I'd say it's genuine. Very nice coin! :wiz:
for me also looks good. In my opinion the grade is VF here in Poland worth about 400$

Sorry, but I personally wouldn‘t buy it if you don‘t have proof of its „realness“. There are more fakes around than real coins of this type. I have a few Danzig coins and although I should be sure , I am still a little unsure everytime I have them in my hands.
Yes I am also unsure of it, but I think its very similar in weight, size and appearance to a real coin. I have bought it it to send it to NGC, and if it comes back as FAKE I will get my Money back :)

Yes, this would be great.

I'm not an expert in coins of Danzig, but I've doubts because of the areas I marked with black circles:
1. Where are the three connections between kogge and rudder (or is the picture too bad so you cannot see it)?
2. I guess there should not be such a thick "drop" of metall between D and the rim.

Sorry, only just saw this post.

Fake unfortunately.

Oh boy now its getting interesting. I have taken as good photos as possible with my phone, hopefully they can shed some more light on the debate.

Are the issues you mention know problems?

These are my new pictures, i am sorry but i dont seem to get them clearer.

In comparison this is a supercloseup of a MS64 graded, same coin, from NGC

The D is also here attached to the rim in a way, don't you think its similar?

If anyone has got any comment on the "D" and the 3 stripes after I posted the last set of photos, please share ??

Hi Oggy,
