Hello,
I had planned to make the Kan'ei pages to the same manner as Chinese cash pages, but since I came back Thailand from Japan last year, I don't have much time for this hobby. So most of the messy contents are left untouched.
I planned to make pages for friendly enough for general users, but suited for advanced collectors.
Here is my plan of separated pages.
1. old type; Nisui-ei (1626)
Several separated lines, including 'reverse 三' and 'blank reverse'
2. old type; Normal-ei (1636~)
JNDA book catalog this page to 16 lines: shiba, asakusa, sakamoto, ..., torigoe.
3. new type; copper; 文 reverse (1668)
JNDA book catalog this page to just 4 lines, however, other sources identified more than 10 sub-variants
shimane, seiji, nyuu-mon, taiten-mon, saiji, senji, ...
3. new type; copper; blank reverse (1668~)
countless sub-variants: shimane-muhai, ogiwara, yottsuhou, mimishiro, maruya, etc.
マ as head of 通 should be here with several lines: fukyuu-te, fushimi-te, hebi-no-me, kyouto-shichijou, ...
4. new type; copper; 佐 reverse (1714~)
5. new type; copper; 仙 reverse (1728~)
6. new type; copper; 小 reverse (1737~)
7. new type; copper; 元 reverse (1741~)
8. new type; copper; 足 reverse (1741~)
9. new type; copper; 長 reverse (1767~)
10. iron; blank reverse (1739~)
many sub-variants including old-style font and new style font. however, all iron is cataloged as new type.
11. iron; 千 reverse (1739~)
12. iron; 川 reverse (1740~)
13. iron; 久 reverse (1768~)
14. iron; 久二 reverse (1774~)
15. iron; 佐 reverse (1862~)
Normally, I read at
kosenmaru as it is very detailed, and picture of most of the rarest variants are visible.
I called the 'reverse', not the mintmark, as some of them does not stand for the place, but the era, e.g. 文 and 元.
Actually, the problem is just
this page, as it is the old page which has copper and iron, with and without reverse mixed. Kan'ei coins circulated in Japan for more than 200 yeas and that's why is should be separated. I started sapararing pages when I study abroad in Japan, and there are problems to be discuss and take a lot of time. so the separation is not completed when I finished my school.
Also, there are more variants of coin in the real world than ones written in the book. I brought a lot of Kan'ei pieces and tried to compare them to the pictures in the book, and found the book is completely useless. for example, in the book has just on '元 reverse', but I found more than 4 different '元 reverse'. That's why I have to separate each difference reverse into page, as I could separate those minor-variants into lines. in each page.
