Hello,
I purchased this cash coin a while ago, but the attribution that came with it says it’s from the reign of Guang Wu AND Ming Di and I haven’t been able to find it in the catalog. I don’t even know much about ancient Chinese history, honestly. Can anyone help me out?

please download this (old) catalog:

Replicas exist....
Non est totum quod splendet ut aurum
Rijkdom bestaat niet uit het hebben van veel bezittingen, maar in het hebben van weinig behoeften
I couldn’t find a definite answer to my question in that catalog...the thing is, in the Numista catalog I believe mine is https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces46174.html but what the tag says bugs me and I can’t be too sure.

It better not be a replica since I got it from VCoins btw!

probably good, but i don't have much experience with this type of coin or age of coin, usally they are very rust/corroded.

here is a link to a good place to search Ancient coins " https://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=1584 "
As to value no idea. good luck with your collecting.
I think the tag is right.
The right character 五(wu, means five) in seal script, or ZHUAN SHU, is curved, while for the left character 銖(zhu), the left top is delta and the right top is roundish. Overall the rim of the coin is a bit thick. These are characteristics of a WU ZHU coin from early Eastern Han Dynasty .
Thank you! To be honest, I just wanted to add it to my collection on this site and simply wasn’t sure if I had the correct page, haha. Only not sure about the Mingdi part, at that. Anyway, I wanted something older than usual tongbao coins, and I like the Wu Zhu design better than those of later cash coins.

...But, uh, this shouldn’t be the correct page as the date doesn’t match. Totally forgot that part, oops. No entry in the catalog yet, maybe?

On Numista there are:
206 BCE - 25 CE
40-57 CE
40-187 CE
So the closest may be https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces7409.html??

The page you posted earlier should be OK. Since the font looks a little bold, it is likely that your sample was made after Emperor Guangwu passed away. But I may be wrong.
In fact WU ZHU coins had been issued from Western Han, Eastern Han, the Three Kingdoms and up to Sui Dynasty, for almost 7.5 centuries. However, era can only be determined by size, weight and design, which is no way to be accurate.
Although WU ZHU coin variants listed on this site are incompleted, Collecting a series of each dynasty is not particularly difficult, should you have interest.
