Does Jack Sparrow have a 1 Pe coin from 1949-1951 Myanmar?

Okay, so I'm a huge fan of Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and along with Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, it's actually one of the things that led me to like coins when I was a kid.

And while looking up (back) on what kind of coins were used/mentioned in the films, I noticed that one of the trinkets that decorate Captain Jack Sparrow's iconic bandanna looks like a coin from Myanmar, having the Chinthe image (the POTC Wiki says it's an ancient Burmese coin but I highly doubt it, at least irl).

It's scalloped with 12 notches, and the size of the Chinthe looks just like this copper-nickel 1 Pe coin from 1949-1951: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces21326.html.

I can't make out the reverse date but the design looks so similar! I don't know who came up with this, whether Depp or a costume/prop designer, but this is certainly an anachronism...isn't it? (The first film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, takes place around 1725, I believe.)

Nice find! :D
You just unearthed evidence of the guy time travelling. (8
Welp. I can't believe they let him put a 20th-century coin right above a main character's face, so noticeably, and that has been overlooked... xD

That's awesome, I can't believe I've never noticed with as many times as I've seen those movies.

Also, I was the same way as a kid - drawn to coins in those stories. (Not "treasure", not gems or jewels; COINS)
Same with me! I remember, as a 10- or 11-year-old, reading Treasure Island and noting every coin that was mentioned – guinea, louis d'or, moidore, sequin, some Chinese cash and pieces of eight – and I still like to collect coins from pirates-related countries and periods.

Mentioning Jack Sparrow reminds me of this video from Lonely Island

What? Me Worry
Actually, with this reverse, it's a 5 Pyas from 1952-1966: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces6109.html

Sadly the date is covered up by a finger.
Oh, I saw that one too but assumed it was 1 Pe from the Chinthe. My bad!

That means the coin is even newer than I first thought, though, a tiny bit more anachronistic...

I see what you mean. Maybe the obverse picture was too closely cropped?

If you're interested, here's an article about a Barber dime that was seen in Fantastic Beasts:

Possibly so! I don't think they just picked up a 50-year-old coin and used it as a film prop without a little modification or such, anyway...

Nice article! I haven't seen the film since I did at the cinemas two years ago but I remember that scene. Didn't recognize it back then because I lacked knowledge of old American coins, though!

Fantastic! Great reasoning and research I must say, I am a great fan of the movie series as well! Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece of information :)

Yes, it's really a 5pyas coin of ancient Myanmar. There's a letter “ငါးပြား” at the back of the coin. You can check this letter on this video at 1:15.
