What is the story behind these coins?
I noticed that they look weird when I saw one at a shop.

hello,

yes, lots of these kopeks (about 1/3) were minted on 5 kopeks which were demonetized and bought from the people to mint new coins. There is an opinion that such barocco design was created to hide a picture from an old coin.
