First, some backstory:
The Lombard Kingdom was a place that mostly existed in modern-day Italy from 568 to 774. They issued quite a few coins. In the centre of that kingdom was the practically independent Duchy of Benevento. That place remained a duchy until the end of the Lombard Kingdom in 774. Because the Duchy of Benevento issued all their coins in the time of the Lombard Kingdom, I have been listing all those coins under the Lombard Kingdom. I think makes sense.
After 774, the Duchy of Benevento turned into the Principality of Benevento, and they continued to mint coins. Because this place came from Benevento, and because the majority of their coins look extremely similar to the coins they made while they were a duchy, I have been listing their coins under the Lombard Kingdom (here). Even so, this place did not exist during the time the Lombard Kingdom did, so do the coins from that place really belong there?
For the most part, when I was adding the principality coins, the coins were listed under the Lombard Kingdom. The exceptions were the later denaro pieces without the typical cross design.
As for the Principality of Salerno, they were a place that came out of the Principality of Benevento, officially forming in 851. Right now, I only have two coins listed by them under the Lombard Kingdom (here). Those two coins were listed as being under the Lombard Kingdom, have quite similar designs to other Lombardic coins, and were struck before 851. Even so, that principality issued a lot of other coins, with the vast majority not being listed under the Lombard Kingdom (like this one, this one, and this one (I really like that one)).
So, back to the title of the this thread, where do the coins from these places belong? Should they both be under the Lombard Kingdom? Both somewhere under Italy? Split between the two? Something else? Any suggestions in their placements would be highly appreciated.
And... thank you for your time!
