Conder Tokens [solved]

4 posts
Hi,

I have just bought a nice UK Conder token, but when I did an advanced search under 'Tokens' and '1793' as the year, it didn't come up. But when I searched under the 'United Kingdom' for the same date it did. It has a type of 'Token' assigned to it. So surely this must be a Token? What did come up under the original search was

the Half Guinea Coin Weight, which also has a type of token. So why are Conder tokens not classed as tokens but assigned it as a type? #confused

Conder tokens are special in that although they are tokens, they circulated like normal currency due to a shortage of official currency. So they are not listed in the tokens section, but in with the United Kingdom circulation coinage.

What? Me Worry
Ok, thanks. It's one of those things where background knowledge makes things obvious! :O

Thanks for this, really pleased with the Token!

Yes, this is also the same reason why French and German notgeld, among others, are listed as tokens (at least, they should be) but are not under the "Tokens" section in the Numista catalogue.
