How am I able to tell if it is silver or copper-nickel.

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
Place a Kleenex (tissue) over it - if it looks dark it's Cu-Ni, silver shines through - it's not scientific but it's worked for me...

How much did you buy it for? if you don't mind me asking.
It is encased in the original slab.
So I cannot measure the density.
Will the tissue thing work if it is encased in the slab
I've never tried it through a slab, let us know if it works
I payed R51 (South African Rands)
For R51 it's probably Cu-Ni or you got a fantastic price for an ounce of silver! Either way, it's a very good price for that coin in a slab
Cupro-Nickel coins of this type cost £1 here in the UK.
It ranges fom $3-6 in the US based on grade
