As I was looking through my collection, I noticed something about the map that shows in color what you have in different countries. I saw that some coins - presumably ancient/medieval ones (examples: Hunnic coins, Timurid and etc) are not showing in the map any countries. Is it possible to showcase them in specific countries that somewhat meets their domains back in the day? For example Nezak Huns - Afghanistan? or if this is difficult enough, here is my second suggestion:
Is it possible to create another map with former empires/kingdoms/ and such. In this way when people click on this map that is named for example: Medieval Map, it could show what coins we possess from a certain period.
Even so, I have a coin from Baktria that is in Greece. It's not totally acurate, yes, Baktria was a greek colony but it's far away from Greece.
This is just a discussion, I hope this idea creates some interaction among fellow coin collectors here.
In my opinion, the best way is to create 3 maps - Ancient/Medieval/Nowadays (after 1800)
I hope what I wrote make sense to you.
Kind regards,
Stefan

We've had this discussion before, a few years ago, and it was really popular. But for some reason it all got stalled and it was forgotten. There were not only talks about a medieval map, but also pre-WWII and pre-WWI maps, and specific "Europe" and "Africa" maps, since not everyone are collecting world coins. The discussion should be found somewhere.
I'm new here and agree this would be a great improvement.
I specialise in ancient Asian coin series so would be really interested, obviously, in ancient dynasty maps..
In regards to the current map, every country is supposed to be shown on it. But with the changes in the site's country list, everything is being... different. Take the German states, for example. As far as I know, every one of those states has been separated from the country 'German states', with each coin you own from a different state counting as a different issuer. However, when each place gets split from a different place, they are no longer shown on the map—they need to be added separately (and with the German states, some are on the map, while others are not). And the mapping of the countries is what this thread is for: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic62471.html.
(I hope that all makes some sense. )
The changes suggested in the above link have not been updated in a while, but I posted the areas for the Mongol states around six month ago, meaning Timurid should eventually show up on the map, but I am not sure when. Baktria will probably be separated from Ancient Greece at some point, and when it is, it will disappear from the map (or rather, your number of coins from Ancient Greece with decrease). And when Baktria is split, it will need to be added to the map afterwards in its correct location.
I have heard other suggesting on creating more maps, which I would support. I like maps. Although, if a second (or third, or fourth) map is created, I would want one map with every country from every time period. Maybe it would be easier to just add a box above the current map that says 'Show only _________'? That way, the user can filter the map to only see their medieval coins, or only see their modern coins, or so on.
I know that Numista would probably count on their own IT specialists for these maps, but it would be great to create a donation section - in this way we could gather some "resources" and make a difference - as far as contribution is concerned.
I want those maps badly, because it would show the exact history mapping of each country, no matter the period. This could be beneficial not only for us - coin collectors but also universities and schools that specializes in numismatics.
So let the force be with us and these changes are implemented sooner rather than later - again, a bank account for donations is necessary! So Numista bosses and developers - make it happen please :)) Numista is half my day - and a big part of my life as far as numismatics is concerned! I'm gathering money for donations.
Kindest regards,
Stef
