Hi,
Can you explain to me why China, Egypt, India, Greece, Mauretania ancient are in the Ancient coins section while other countries aren't ?
Check Ancient Nepal. Why this country isn't moved ? Or Maybe Jarek will decide this should stay as it is...
Regards,
Damian
The way I understand it, the "Nepal - ancient" country as it currently exists should rather have been named "Nepal - medieval". (Or, honestly, just plain renamed to "Licchavi Kingdom", but I'm talking about the chronology.) Which is why it is not in the "Ancient coins" section.
Essentially, there's a cutoff, apparently somewhere around the early-mid 7th century (roughly corresponding to the first Islamic states), where countries before that are considered "ancient" and put in the "Ancient coins" section (this includes all the ones you mentioned except possibly Nepal - see below), and countries after that are considered "medieval" (or later) and put in the general section.
Now, occasionally a single issuer (or a succession of issuers unified on Numista) straddles this 7th century boundary (this actually includes the Licchavi Kingdom); in this case, yes, the decision on where to put them appears to be somewhat arbitrary (though mostly based on where the majority is - which is admittedly unclear for the Licchavi).
For what it's worth, I personally believe that, under current rules as I understand them, the Lombard Kingdom should not be in the "Ancient coins" category.
Agree with you. This should be corrected. For me renaming to Licchavi Kingdom is quite enough, it make sense. I hope the Numista Team looks in the same way.

Licchavi (also Lichchhavi, Lichavi) was an ancient kingdom in Nepal, which existed in the Kathmandu Valley from approximately 400 to 750 CE. The Licchavi clan originated from Vaishali in modern northern Bihar and conquered Kathmandu
Hi,
it's already been discussed before Christmas to rename ancient Nepal into Medieval or Licchavi Kingdom....just didn't followed-up on this. Will check that

Thank you very much for your replies. Glad to see something moved with this. Yes some coins are problematic so the name too. In My opinion Licchavi kingdom suits best.
