Help Identify please - Egypt Coin

7 posts
Playing around with my new camera and lens, and found this one laying around...

It looks very similar to this coin - https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces22366.html

But the weight is around 6.59 grams...

I assume it's 1277 (1866)

Thanks :)
Hello,
Yours is a 10 para. You can see that on the observe side, under the tughra ;)

I agree with you about the other informations : struck in Egypt, regnal year 7 of Abdul Aziz (1866).

Thanks. Thought it would be, but couldn't find the numista page.

Is it normal for them to be so overweight? And value I guess is just a coupla bucks?
According to NGC, the weight of this coin can vary from 6,1 to 6,6 grams so it's alright.

Personnally, I would have estimated it at about 8 / 12 USD max.
The catalog value seems to concur with that however people try to sell them between 10 to 20 bucks on Ebay/ma-shop, sometimes in lower grades, so I may be a bit low.
The values in NGC (Krause) are catalog values, not real selling/buying prices.
On ebay, the values are way to high, so never buy coins there. The coins there are Always rare and scarce....

I buy almost exclusively from eBay because I am very focused in my collecting interests, know the market and, also, I follow eBay sellers who are little known and put up coins for auction which I often get well below the catalogue value. Many such eBay sellers are not professional dealers but older collectors who are dispensing with their collection.

Not long ago an eBay seller (this one perhaps a professional dealer, but definitely not specialized in coins alone) put up for sale a countermarked 1881 Canadian 50¢ which was of some interest to me, but the starting bid was $200 (Canadian), which was ridiculously high. So, I bookmarked the coin and played the "wait and see" game. He renewed the post a couple of times at $200, then at $150 if I remember correctly, then at $100 a couple of times, which was still too high in my opinion, and then at $66, and this is when I got it, being the only bidder.

On the other hand, though, if I spent more time on my Roman coin collection, I would be very hesitant to buy on eBay because of fakes and the fact that I don't know which dealers I can trust and which I can't. To me, a fair percentage of ancient coins on eBay look fake. I would probably go with sites such as the Forum Ancient Coins and their Members' Free Auction if I were collect ancients more actively than I currently do.

I suspect fakes are much less of a problem with regard to medieval coins, right?

Try KM 241 - 10 Para, year 7 (6.1-6.6 g. bronze), see if that matches.
