Is the country list really consistent?

Hi all!
It was a while since I was really active here, but now I'm starting to back back a little. I just checked the country list and it looks great! I really like the sub-sections and it makes it all cleaner! There were a few things that got me thinking though. I will try to make this post short and straight to the point, but as a geography and flag geek it might me difficult for me :P (in 6th grade me had a Europe map test. I got 48/46 since I added countries that weren't marked on the map :))

So, here's a few countries that are missing its flag, or has the wrong flag:

In the Yemen case, I reckon that North Yemen should have the Arab Republic of Yemen flag, and that South Yemen should have the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen's flag, instead of the united Yemeni flag.

I believe there also are a few countries/sections in the regular list, that (according to me) should fit better under the Ancient coins section:

I mean, Nepal (Ancient) even has "ancient" in its name ;). Maybe some categories are more medieval than ancient though.
If this isn't moved to Ancient coins, then Greece (Ancient) should be put under Greece:

Also, these there are (at least) two territories that should be placed as sub-countries under its host:

Crimea should be put under Russia, since Ukraine didn't really exist at this time, and the Crimean Khanate later became a part of the Russian Empire and then the Soviet Union util 1991 when it was given to the reborn Ukraine. The Mongol Empire says itself that it should be under Mongolia. Or under Ancient coins.

The question is also: What counts as a Micronation? Under this category there's only unrecognised states, but what about the real micronations, like Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Andorra, Monaco, Vatican City, San Marino, Cyprus, Malta, the Pacific islands, and the Caribbean islands, the African island nations, etc. should be listed here. If not, then the category should be renamed.

Please share your thoughts about this.

Cheers!
Hi!

Flags - only Xavier can fix those.

Yemen - there will be more states added in the future. That is why flags are like they are.

Ancients are really ancient, medieval coinage is between normal coinage. Only in one case you are right - that is Ancient Nepal - that one is going to be renamed and moved.

Crimea - phew, that is quite problematic, leaving it outside keeps problems at bay. Some coins are Russian, some are from Crimean khanate. Countries are not placed under others based only on territorry.

Mongol Empire was laaaaarger than today Mongolia, that is why it is outside.

Micronations are "countries" or rather entities that claim to have some land and reside on it, and "coins/tokens" actually circulate there.

Indian States are not necessarily ancient, I have coins of Indian States that date well into the 20th Century.

China Empire also has coins till early 20th century. You can hardly call that "ancient".

What you call "real micronations" are in fact microstates or ministates, not to be confused with micronations (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ministate). So these little "countries" are perfectly where they belong to be. Just like the name "Micronations" is perfect for the "countries" who find their place in that category now.

Yes, I am very well aware of the problematics around Crimea. Maybe it's better to rename it as "Crimea khanate", then the list in this category can me more structured, and it gets even more justified for it to stand alone?

About the Mongolia empire, I was more thinking that Soviet Union lies beer Russia, so why isn't the Mongolia Empire a subsection of Mongolia? Modern day Mongolia was the birthplace of Genghis Khaan, and the for it origins in Mongolia. If the Mongol Empire stands alone, so should Soviet Union, to keep the consistency.
Or maybe the Mongol Empire itself could have subsections like "Chagatai Khanate", "Ilkhanate", and "Golden Horde"?
All these sections are planned - Xavier is working on third level subsection- like you can see in Yemen- which is not working properly.

Awesome! :wiz:
There are a few more things though.

In Saint Kitts & Nevis there is this coin. It was minted in 1970, when the natin was called Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla, and were under this flag:

Also, the Island of Nevis should be under this flag:

Anguilla tried to be independent, although unsuccessfully, and formed the Republic of Anguilla which lasted 1967–1969. This was a breakaway republic from the Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla. During this time the Republic of Anguilla used the Anguilla Liberty dollar and used ths flag: (which can be seen on this coin.)

I also noticed that Ascension Island has the Saint Helena flag. It should be the Ascension Island flag:

In a previous thread about the coin from St. Kitts, Nevis, and Anguilla, I had brought this up and was told that just prior to the issuance of the coin that Anguilla was no longer a part of the group, but no time to change the coin. That is why the coin is listed under St. Kitts and Nevis.

Its annoying though...almost like all the weird Irish names we use in the Irish listings that the Irish themselves do not even use on their national banks homepage.8)
