Just made a swap proposal with another member of this site, and we found out that for several Romania coins the prices have multiplied by 5 to 10, when comparing edition 2010 and 2011 !
Does anybody know if there are other countries where this is the case ? What happened to make Krause do this ?
This way it will become difficult to make swaps: people having more recent version of Krause will ask more for their coins, people with older catalogs will hesitate to swap, not knowing if their coins are worth a lot, or not.
I say current, but I don't see anything on the site that says when the prices were last updated, but it might be useful for anyone using a much older version of the catalog. At the very least, both parties can see the same values, though I admit it doesn't do anything for a 5 to 10 times increase in value from one year to the next.
I have found it easiest to use Krause as a referance only. Prices listed within are unreliable in most cases. I have trouble finding dealers who charge prices as high as are listed (but they will use the listed prices quickly to prevent a deal from dropping much below their asking price)
It is much more reliable, in my experiance of swapping, to use the "number of people" option. Coins with a great number of people who want to swap them are more common and thus less of value, when found on ebay or other such sites.
There are exceptions of course, but I have found this method the most reliable.
