Responses to swap offers

I don't know if anybody else is having the same problem as me but I have put out about 20 swap requests and have yet to get any responses.  Some of these are over two weeks old.  I think it would be just fair to respond and either agree or disagree with the swap offer.  Louie
Hi Louie,

I was sending out a lot of swap request, as you are, and not getting any response, but they were filling up my swap monitor. I have started to request my swaps with a PM instead. This allows me to add a personal message as to the date and any other note, that I can then see when the persons name appears on the "start a swap" page.

I've found that I only get an answer from 1 out of 5 or more request. It would be nice to get more, but I don't think it is personal.
Thanks for the response.  I may go back and see if I sent a personal PM when I made the request.  This may help.  Thanks for the info.  BTW, I am located in Mooresville, NC.  Where is Leland?  Louie
It's about 5 miles south of Wilmington. On the coast.

I'm originally from the Randleman/Asheboro area.
yes ive had this problem too i only seem to usually get swaps with people from my previous swap list any others usually no response but then again they may not be online as often as me who knows
I have noticed that many of the people here list an awful lot of minor and inexpensive coins.  Is this always the case as I would think that most of the collectors would already have these coins and would not be interested.  I collect mainly silver coins and sets and am looking for the same.  Louie
Most of us (mainly meaning me) don't have a lot of spare silver laying around these days. But even with the common coins, there are people who are just entering the hobby that haven't found them in the wild yet and  those of us who have been collecting for a while need some of the common issues that just haven't found the way to us.

As for trading in silver, most people have removed their silver from the swap list to slow down request to trade it for base metal coins. Hang around awhile and you'll get a feel for those who have some silver stuck back. Then you can contact them for a swap. Or ask on the forum (like you just did) and they may approch you.
Thanks for the info.  Another question.  How do you list sets or slabbed coins on the forum.  I just see the individual coins but I have some sets that I would like to post.  Any suggestions.  Louie

You must list the coins in your sets individually, if people started adding sets to the coin lists it would clutter the database quite a lot as there are literally thousands of different sets put together by various governments, banks, companies and individuals.
You can add personal comments to your coins though, and if you wish to, you can put that your coin is part of a set as your personal comment.
It seems a bit rude not to respond at all. For myself, I always try to respond, even if its with a "thanks for the offer but you have nothing of interest to me at this time".

Swapping high value coins is a risky and expensive business. It requires tracked postage, and a lot of trust. I would never enter into a swap for high value coinage. I'll hang on to it and sell it in person if I should ever choose to.

Thanks for the info.  I have just updated my list of coins and have used the personal message portion to list those that are slabbed.  Many thanks for all your help.  This 79 year old collector sure does appreciate all the help.  However, I am and have always been, trusty with my fellow man.  I make small first trades with high value and silver items and then, if that goes well, will do more and higher trades.  Have been successful so far in my 65 year collecting.  Louie
I try to respond to all swap requests. Someone has taken the time to write so it seems like the right thing to do. I did miss a few a month or so ago, they were cancelled before I had time to reply. It wasn't rudeness, just a lack of time.

On the subject of silver coins, I've listed quite a lot, mostly Scandanavian, UK and US. While I won't be trading them for junk, it doesn't bother me any if I get gold, silver, palladium, platinum, zinc, aluminium, bronze or copper in return. I'm a collector not a junk silver investor.

Louie.... 65 years collecting, that is awesome.  Imagine getting BU coins in your change daily back in those days, what a collection you could put together for face value.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.
