Hi all,
I need some expert advice on coin recently acquired in good faith . Upon researching further it appears certain stated fact s about the coin may have been mis-represented. The issue revolves around the designation 'Proof FDC'.
This is one of several similar definitions I found of FDC;
Fleur de Coin (FDC)
'A perfect or virtually perfect coin. Fully struck up. No Contact- or other Detracting Marks visible with the naked eye, and only minute superficial imperfections, relating to the manufacturing process rather than any other cause, may be visible under magnification. Fully Lustre or Mint Bloom is present. Toning on Silver coins (if present) must be attractive. Brilliance (Color) on Bronze Coins should be 90% plus. Eye Appeal is outstanding. To reiterate, it is a completely flawless mint state coin with nothing forgiven. This grade is very rare, not to be taken lightly or accepted easily.'
Object of issue was described as ' AUSTRIA 1780A (1986) 5 Unzen, 5 Ounce Proof FDC (KM X# MB2) '
Statement by 'Seller'... 'Coins have abrasions/bag marks as they were 'originally packaged in plastic bags' which didn't protect the coins.'
I relied on this statement because I was unfamiliar with the 'terminology FDC', but I was familiar with abrasions and/or bag marks sometimes appearing on Uncirculated or Proof coins.
My questions are:
(1)Were these coins originally shipped from the Vienna Mint in bulk in plastic bags? (2) If not, 'How' were they shipped or made available to Collectors?
Thanks folks... Dan
