Coin storage and "Coin" storage

4 posts
Hi Guys,

My primary collection is circulating coins, which I have in cardboard 2x2s, in the usual 4x5 sleeves in A4 binders.

I've just started on British £5/Crown coins, which at the moment I keep in airtites in a box, and my tertiary collection is random "coins" like the commemorative ones from the London Mint, the "postage only" freebies, not worth a great deal, but I get them because I like the look of them, I also include fake Pandas and other replicas.

The question is how to store these coins.
I'm thinking for the £5 and crowns in a tray maybe, but storage space is an issue for me.
And for the other "coins", I was half thinking some cheap reusable slabs? So I had some space to document where they came from and when, as not all the coins are dated, or have a place of origin (mainly because they're not "real coins"!).

As an aside, I think I'm slightly OCD as I like to see everything uniform, so having a box of random sized airtites is doing my nut, hence the need for a uniform size to hold all the others I have, but I'm cheap so I don't want to spend more on the holders than I do on the coins.

In the UK, the price of ringed capsules, quadrum holders, and proper slabs are quite prohibitive, so any cheap alternatives or other suggestions for storage would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

PS. And before anyone says I shouldn't be collecting that cheap junk anyway, I know, each to his own and all that, I just like the look of them. ;)

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.
You could try Quadrums, I think you can get albums for those

I like what Neil said. You can get boxes to hold the coin flips and holds the plastic 2x2.
hey collect what you like I have a note book for just dead coins and coins with wholes.
It is, what it is, or is it.
Quadrums are the most uniformed capsules, I am the same with symmetry ocd as well. I use flight cases and a mahogany 10 tray lockable box/case (I squeezed 20 trays without problem)

I can get quadrums for around £4.50 for a box of 10. Just under 50p cost per capsule. Some of my low value coins are worth less than the capsule they are in but they all look symmetrical and organised.

The other is 2x2 flips which will cater to any size you want. I use white flips for low value/grade and I use black flips for unc or slightly higher value like standard proof coins. Black flips look very smart but you need a label machine with white text for it to work out better and neater.

I also collect high value copies, mostly because I know I wont likely have them for real. All of them go into black 2x2 flips and stored into flight case trays.
