Agreed! I got it as it has nice designs on both sides - a small man carrying a sack of grain
to the windmill, and the other side has a lion with a lamb. Plus nice condition. Thank you
It was £5.59 plus £1.80 postage from UK. I bought it as it was a nice design, and a token I did not already have. I saw another just now on eBay where there is one opening bid of £14.99 with under two days to go.
A nice old thick piece of copper, that's how I like coins best. I realised you haven't been posting any African coins lately, are you now complete with your collection?

Thank you !!!
Great coin actually and Im happywith it.
Yes I have stopped with my African coins. There were few reasons ..
There were not coin for swap among 50 k members. And also I destined that limit when I had to pay average 80-120 $ for single coin. Then I decided to concentrate on Georgian coinage which is awesome and very interesting.

That's a pity, hopefully you'll complete your collection someday! By the way, I just looked at your swaplist and found some Georgian and Vietnamese coins that I don't have in my collection yet. Maybe we can swap some?

As most of the answers to the original question seems to be a great number of tokens, which look really great as I do not collect them, I would like to add me own 'latest edition'.
Whilst on holiday touring Spain by coach, we stopped in a beautiful city called Segovia. Whilst walking around, I came across an antique centre with small stalls within the building.
I came across a 1944 gun shell (57mm), which wanted to buy, just because of the date. (D-Day)- a possibility? Shell size indicates anti tank shell for M1 gun
After hard negotiations, I bought it for €20 instead of €38.
Getting it home was a possible problem, but nothing encountered at the airport, so it is now a part of my alternative collection.
Picture if requested.
Seriously, numismatic sections in newspaper stands are the evil.
I know the coins have to be overpriced. I know that. But I keep ending up buying them anyway.
In this case, I spent $11 on three commemorative coins - the Saint Helena 50 pence commemorating the visit of Prince Andrew (half the money was for just this coin - last time I spent more than that on a single coin was months ago), and two Portuguese 200 escudos from 1992 (the America one and the California one - I thought the themes were nice).
At least apparently Saint Helena commemoratives (straight Saint Helena, I mean, without Ascension) are generally rare, so maybe the purchase was worth it (it probably wasn't).
Quote: "Lotus07"Oh yes please post a picture! I'm not really into collection gun shels but anything old and with some
historical significance catches my interest! :-)
Can post my 17th century maps too that I just got if you like Haven't got a new coin for ages though ;/

Oh yes that would be nice too! Recently I got a huge 1983 map of Europe with all kinds of historical details on it. Only cost 30 cents so it was well worth the money! ;)

Earlier in this subject, someone mentioned maps, so I would like to add mine. Story follows photographs.
The map on the left is of the area of south west England, where I live. The dark patch in top left is Bristol and the other dark patch to lower right is Bath. I live at the bottom of the map.
Interestingly, all of the places on the map are in English except one. This is Filton airport, which is top left. All writing around the outside is in German as is Filton airport.
The map has been confirmed as part of maps used for the buildup to Operation Sealion, (the German invasion of Britain in 1940).
Due to the fact that the invasion was cancelled, due to the Germans unsuccessful attempt to win the 'Battle of Britain', the map were returned to Germany for re-use.
On the other side, all in German, are details for the use, care and maintenance of gas masks.
I picked up my second Professor Holloway token in two months, this one in the 1858 one, and unlike it appears in my scan, his one is a nice VF (with a few rim dings that you often get with the big coppers.)
That's awesome COINMAN1! I really like the stories, it just gives an extra touch to items. By the way, that gun shell looks like it's brand new! Must have been polished heavily, but still a very cool item to store on a book shef or something like that. Maybe I'll fetch one myself one day, seems very practical to store brushes and pencils!
I like that map too, soon I'll be moving to a different city so hopefully I'll find a historical map of it like yours as wll to hang on my wall!

Not sure which of my three current collecting areas I have more of -
will have to add up how many Crowns or Conder tokens or French jetons I have of each.
EDIT:
Crown ~ 61 [Crown - 5 Shillings - 25 New Pence - 25 Pence only, so excluding 5 Pounds]
Conder ~ 126 [Dated 1787 to 1797, then I included others around those dates]
Jetons ~ 56 [Only the French ones, not German et cetera]
So now I know which I should get more of.
This arrived today from the USA delayed by a hefty customs bill luckily I got it for less than I was willing to pay but it doesn't make it any easier to take ha ! But just look at it.. I've wanted one of these in a better grade since I got my outgoing F a few years ago.
I also picked this up.. My 3rd Liberty dollar and second in recent weeks.
Thanks - yes that is where I got it. Getting increasingly hard to think which tokens are in my collection, so I do not make a bid on one that I already have!
I have to look on here to see them (or their grade) as cannot remember them all. Also I still get outbid myself on some that I would like, so I do not get them all unfortunately.
The owner said if I was interested in coins, that he had a bunch more that he's had ever since the USSR fell. I told him I might be if the price was right. He said he'd bring them in Wednesday next week .. We'll see what other goodies he might have ...

I now have both host coin types:
cayenne 2 sous
crowned C stampee
and a contemporary crowned C counterfeit
I just missed sled out on a Montserrat black dog too from the same seller but I just couldn't stretch that far since the wedding is next week.
Quite nice, what's the date on that one?
And congrats on the wedding! Are you ensuring that all wedding presents are denominated in demonetized coinage?
New Medal and new token as well as some coins from Basel so far this month.

Quote: "oggy"2 additions, both solid vf. A crown and a half crown.
both nice !
i got these two today recently I've been picking up a few Essequibo/ British Guiana guilders.
Yea, the guilders must be quite hard to pick up! Been passively looking out for them the last few days and not spotted any.
I don't like the toning on the half crown, may actually see if I can do something about it and read up on dipping; probably why it went a bit cheap. Reverse is probably aEF on that one, but the obverse toning really bothers me.
Made a bulk lot acquisition this morning but I'll pm you with that one.
also just got this one. East India company 1/4 Anna with Eastern Aden countermark on it. I wish the host coin was a better grade but really the countermark is what makes it :)
Quote: "Mark240590"A very small but tough to get coin.
Mombasa 2 Annas it's UNC with some bag marks but isn't photographing very well with the iPhone "/
I do love those annas. I was planning to collect them before realising I couldn't collect everything.
Most expensive tuppence I've ever bought.... kind of an iconic piece a british collection can't go without though.
I suspect I'm going to have to machine a drawer for it to fit.

Not been in a buying mood recently but then something pops up that I can't refuse. Sovereigns have a strange effect on me especially the earlier scarcer types.
These don't come up that often so I had to have it despite it being an ex jewellery piece.
1874 Melbourne mint, shield back full sovereign.
I deny nothing but doubt everything, opinions are made to be changed, how else is the truth to be gotten at.
A Hardi of Henry IV, V or VI (numismatists have been unable to attribute it to a single king) and dates to 1399-1453. It depicts the King standing with a sword in his hand.
I've got some items that have arrived at home but I won this whilst I was away. I've not seen one before but at £17.71 I had to have it I'll probably sell the other one now.
