Hello numista users

I need a little help to choose a coin for my wife. She loves the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. And I was thinking to by her a 8 real coin aka the piece of eight. But I don't know which one be more likely to be used by pirates in that time period.

Regards Levi
Well, any 8-R will do, so just pick a coin from the time period.

But also remember that there were pirates all over the world, so not just 8-R

"the scriptwriters revealed that they placed the story in a thirty-year environment set loosely between 1720 and 1750"

Just a thought, you can get a 4-R in a much higher grade for the same money, but the 8-R is cool just for its size.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
Well George III was in the 4th movie, so that will give you an idea of when it was set

You know, my wife wanted me to be more like a pirate like Jack Sparrow, so I gave her what she wanted, I started drinking copious amounts of rum, didn't shave or brush my hair or wash myself for a couple of months.....I guess women are never satisfied.

Somehow unfortunate that younger members can't use the correct grammatical terms when giving helpful 'advices' on this site.

Was this a dig at me?

First of all, the user said they wanted to get an 8 real coin from the time that the movie was set and wanted to know when it was set, Which I answered by saying they were set around the time of George III's rule and posted a link showing him appearing in the 4th movie.

Secondly, YOU did not answer the question since the user asked for the 8 real coin most likely used during the time the movie was set and you've given a tacky made-for-collectors piece of crap minted this year instead

Thirdly, lighten up and take a joke I added onto the end for what it was.

Fourthly Hi hamster boy, are you enjoying your new username?
That was a good eye mate!

Thank you very much for your help
It can be difficult to include our wives in our coin hobby. If we can give them a coin they will like and be interested in, that would be great. Just be careful that she doesn't feel like you're getting her a coin for your collection. You might get her an 8-R and also something small she would like. However, when we did the Christmas swap, I got a medieval coin, and my wife thought it was really cool. She even said "if I collected coins they would be like this" so now I know how to get her a little bit interested in my hobby. ;)

You spoken wisely my friend. I better scratch that idea of baying her a 8R coin.
And she probably be more happy if I buy her something from the jewelry stores.
And when I buy the coin for my collection maybe she won't be so mad for spending the money :P

This one, no more discussion, by the way is one of the most beutiful coins ever minted, its no so chep, beware of the copies!

Mexican (Spanish kingdom) 8 reales
Silver
Its about 40 mm and 28 grams of silver
Emiliano, Can you get coins like this?

Papprika, Get her this coin as a random gift, you never know, she might love it, just perhaps not for her birthday.

Me? i would have one if i had the money, but wealthier collectors own one, they are a little bit rare but they always appear in the market, here in México the price goes arround 250-300 dollars, his fractions (2,1 and 1/2 reales) are quite cheaper, even is "usual" to find this lower value coins buried arround colonial places or haciendas, goig back to the 8 reales, a coin like this would be a gold gift
The coin is very butiful indeed but a bit much for my budget I only have a 200$ Max to spend. But I decided to buy her something else. Thank you for your time and sugetion.
