The latest coins to get the firing treatment to save a coin destined for death. No false toning chemicals like liver of sulphur are used, this is the colour they turn after firing when quenched a certain way, I do not use chemicals and the finish is completely determined by the coin make up.
My images are using a flash (right side), this makes the toning look lighter than it is, the patina is dark on all with a rainbow twist.
Disclaimer : I do not endorse cleaning any coin unless there is nothing to lose. Cleaning coins can vastly affect its value and would therefore be a very bad mistake to clean any coin with value. The coins above were requested verdigris removals.
Verdigris infected coins will succumb to the green death if not treated quickly, pits will form on the surface. The firing method I use is a combination of treatments and not just firing alone. Chemicals are not normally used unless the verdigris is extremely deep.
I welcome all verdigris challenges, I wont reveal my methods as it is dangerous in inexperienced hands.
This set has been cleaned for Idolenz by request.

Possible to treat this one?
Yes, all era's can be treated.
I can treat any coins with verdigris, some turn out like those in this topic, whereas others may end up with surface pitting, It varies.
I have no problem treating coins for anyone who may need it, as long as you fully understand there is still that risk things could go wrong. (I haven't had this happen yet but I feel I need to state it as a disclaimer.)
Feel free to pm me if anyone would like verdigris coins treated.

I'm somewhat curious as to what would happen if these coins were submitted for grading. I'm pretty sure they would come back with the dreaded "details" grade, but it's by no means certain. Some of the results are super. At the very least the verdigris has been neutralised and will no longer be eating away at the coin.
I reckon once you get to the point where the results can be reliably predicted you could make a nice sideline income, espcially if you could apply it to higher priced ancients straight from the bosum of Mother Earth where some kind of resoration / conservation is considered normal.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.
Make Numismatics Great Again!
I have thought about sending one off to be graded out of curiosity. I would be a little startled if it got through undetected as cleaned. The cost puts me off as well as it getting slabbed, I hate slabs and instantly want to crack them open.
I have consistently obtained the same results regardless of a coins age, I have no fear or worry there will be irreversible damage because it is now a perfected method, which I would happily state as 99.9% successful. I still always state a disclaimer just in case that 0.1% shows up.

This method leaves its marks on the surface that are detectable if the guys grading aren't as old and nearsighted as Mr. Nightingale often says . But still much better than an verdigris invested coin that would have much less value to the most collectors also you really could earn yourself a nice amount of cash on the side with your method.
I see only a danger with this method (working with fire is always a potential danger) when you get a coin not out of a solid high copper alloy so if you have an ancient which often were made right from the copper ore straight from the mines and may contain a higher concentration of "lesser" metals that could cause the coin to blow up in your face.
It isn't likely it will distort or blow up, I do not allow them to get hot enough to cause that kind of reaction. I can also see when copper has hit its max temperature.
Ancients will be a new type to try, I don't have any though unfortunately so I will have to wait until a verdigris infected coin becomes available. Earliest I have done is 17th century copper, it reacted the same as 20th century copper so I will be interested to see how ancients react.
As for making cash, I wouldn't know where to start to achieve that, especially as a lot of people see any clean like I have committed 1st degree murder. I own the domain www.NumisMaddicts.co.uk but all that is there is a redirect to Numista. Every time I go to create a site, I get mental block and can't think what theme to actually build, perhaps I could set up a site to show off the coins I have cleaned with before and after and just let it grow as needed.
I really need as many Verdigris coins as I can get my hands on, eBay is a nightmare to find any with verdigris as that is never specified in the listings.
Yesterday I took a bash at Iron coins that have begun to rust, exactly the same method as copper and it actually worked and neutralised the rust leaving a dark silver coloured coin. I have only done one and would need more to make sure the method works for that also.

Wow, I am astonished at these results! I think I have quite a lot of rusted inexpensive Swedish iron coins that I could give you. PM if you're interested.
