Didn't notice anything yet. Maybe a coin move?

I just returned from 5 months on the lakeshore of Michigan's U.P. and no internet. It appears that in that time I have lost 3 countries and gained back 3.
Lost: Sharjah, 5 rupees X#1 to Exonumia (last coin I bought before I left)
Judea, 1pratah Porcius Festus to Roman Provinces
Persianate States, jital Khwarzem to Islamic states
Gained: Islamic states
1 kepand Malacca added back to Malay Penninsula
Phoenecian cities, dichalkos Arados (my submittal for a new coin was approved while I was gone)

Sharjah: not a surprise as X# reference = Exonumia.
Judea: asked it myself as made under the name of a Roman procurator of Judea as part of the Empire.
Persianate/Islamic states: due to a merge made by simoneo.
Phoenicia: agreed and upgraded (also owning this)
Malacca: no idea

Many fantasy coins on eBay dated 2008,
and one or two rare genuine coins like this 5 Piastres AH1311
Shouldn't we consider eBay as an open source supplier of picture for the Numista catalogue ?
As you said, they're fantasy, mainly created due to local agitation.
Too bad we can't add it, unless they come from a seller reknown to be an authorized source elsewhere.

With all the respect I have for our honorable administrators, I just disagree.
There are multiple coin collector websites that display coins published on auctions like ebay or sixbid while publishing auction reference numbers. And that's very useful to find a picture when you are looking for a particular RIC reference.
A photo placed on these auction websites is deemed in the public domain and furthermore ebay does not protect pictures of items for sale.
Who could blame the use of these picture?
- the seller (who doesn't own the object anymore ?)
- the buyer (who didn't own this object at the time of publication on the auction website ?)
- ebay (which doesn't give a toss about ?)
I do think just adding the website reference and the auction number would protect Numista of any appeal. until proven otherwise

I took a look to their Terms and Conditions. Xavier would prefer not tu use it as he said us:
Quote: "Xavier"They claim they have all rights over the pictures, but I'm not sure all original owners of the pictures are really aware. I prefer not reusing those pictures, even if eBay ever agrees.
I don't like this kind of terms and conditions, so I don't want Numista benefits from them.

Already been three months since the last update.
Some new countries as Mauretania ancient, Darfur, German notgeld
and Persian satrapies owned by eug congrats!
Once again, auctionking65 got the greatest increase of the number of countries, still far from the Mexican emperor who would do well to beware of future pretenders ...
And to finish this review of these happy inhabitants of the new world,
we welcome a new member to the club: Pott
from the most fantasy country ...
I am quite curious how the new structure (which would lead to many new countries to be counted as such) will make impact here. Will you consider renaming?
Too bad the coin is hardly worn, but not surprising as found often in such bad condition

Please be informed that we partly dismantled Central Asia. This ragbag contained Ancient coinages which have been split in 2 new countries: Indo-Parthian Kingdom and Indo-Sasanian Kingdom.

We have a newcomer - Duchy of Courland has become a country (under Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth)
We also held talks on country count future, but we haven't concluded much yet.
One of the main floating ideas though, is to make two counters. One for countries, and one for coin issuing entities. This could give us option to make your club more professional, (you really counted Seborga as a country? And not Bavaria?) while you will retain your count in coin issuing entities.
Any of the above-written ideas is subject to change.

It would be a bit of a problem, though...
For countries - there are only 193 UN members (and some of them - I'm looking at you Micronesia - never made any actual coins, and/or only made really rare NCLT).
Even adding non UN members (like Vatican), partially recognized states (like Taiwan), unrecognized breakaway states (like Transnistria), ancient places (like Byzantium), currency unions (like the West African States), and some odd places like Central America and Rwanda-Burundi (and the infamous Iles de France et Bonaparte*, a country that only one Numista member has) that don't really fit well anywhere else, we might still be forced to count micronations like Seborga just to make 300 countries even mathematically possible (Erdvilla is likely to be the first to actually make it).
For coin issuing entities, to make 300, your best chance is probably to ignore anything from the last fifty years or so (except for the real easy countries like Russia) and focus on German states, Indian states, and/or assorted feudal principalities (maybe the ancient Greek cities too, but they're not very well represented on Numista). German states is probably the easiest (it might well be possible to make it to 300 from that alone - and that's not counting notgeld, which are probably even easier to get to 300).
OTOH, if you want to make it to 1000, there'd be a bit of a trade-off in that it's probably worth it to include the modern countries and the cheaper NCLT, because getting a new German or Indian state you didn't have yet becomes ever incrementally harder.
Of course neither is likely to be what is intended to happen. But if either of those scenarios happens - and I can't see why either of them wouldn't - the current 300 country club is likely to kiss itself goodbye (though in the former scenario a new 200 country club will have a very similar set of members).
One country that really shouldn't be there, though, is Mesopotamia (ancient) - only tokens listed (and most of the actual Mesopotamian coinage is rightly listed in Persian satrapies).
*) though they'd probably be joined with Iles de France et Bourbon - currently a section of Reunion - which is much more common, with two coins rated in the 80s
I am not sure I got the point. Currently, things are going in such way, that there will be actually more countries then are there now. To such extent that getting 300 countries might be actually so easy that this will become 400 country club or more.

Um, this is basically my second scenario (though I expect a much higher number than 400).
Me too. You can anticipate quite a surge once Xavier creates option to have more than two level country list. Also, this will probably go hand in hand with issuing new counters.

Neo-Babylonian Empire = the last Mesopotamian nation as well.

I believe that my additions to the club are nearly at an end for a while. I have 382 countries now. I have coins coming from the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, India (Ancient) and Order of Malta. I am awaiting the pending verification of Hunnic Empire and Celtic Danube. I will probably wait until the new structure of countries and coin issuing entities becomes clearer before I buy anymore coins for my OFEC collection.
Most of us will lose countries to coin issuing entities such as the Micronations, Non UN States and other changes. There will, however, be a great opportunity as new countries (Jarcek est. 300+) are added.
Frenchlover, do you plan on continuing the 300 or possibly the 400 club?

From my point of view, it wont be a lost at all as the goal is to have all country listed? in your case or many others... those "miss" countries will turn into a highly valuable swap coin, unless you will like to keep 2 or more coins per country...

Frenchlover, do you plan on continuing the 300 or possibly the 400 club?
The goal of the club is to get an evaluation of the degree of difficulty to obtain certain countries, as long as some collectors see an interest, the concept of the club can evolve. At the moment, there are only minor changes.
Quote: "Frenchlover"Lets see the list of unusual countries.
No member of the "300 countries club" gets coins from countries in black
Then in decreasing order of difficulty, colors switch down to the purple haze.
Only one member doesn't own a purple country, so, they are easier to catch

Has this thread been replaced by a newer version?
I think there is the other thread which also hasn't been updated in awhile.
On a side note, I recently have hit 300 coins and currently sit at 303.

Cette exercise bénévole nous permettra peut-être de connaître quels sont les membres qui possèdent le plus grand nombre de pays.
This voluntary exercise may allow us to know which members have the greatest number of countries.
I've never started a thread myself, but it looks like you'd go back to the main page for the "Free discussion" forum, and press the "New Topic" button (towards the top left).
It looks like you'd need to enter something like "Working towards a 250-country club" or something like that in the subject box.
I suppose you'd have to cut and paste the existing text from this thread to the message box in the new thread.
There was a new topic for 2017 here
But the switch from "countries" to "issuers" made this discussion useless. What community of interest can we find between a collector who gets more than two hundred German states and another who tries to get a coin from every country in the world? Moreover, there were several criticisms about this holy quest for more and more expensive countries, and when you start to have more than 300 countries, you start to look for countries that are not real issuers of coins like certain pacific islands. The 300 countries club was fun but I think it's closed
