So I bought this box of rummage coins...

So I went to my flea market, and I saw my regular dealer and he says to me, "I've got some new stock at home", and I says "I'll drop round and buy it unseen for £20". Understanding that he has already gone through it and removed any gold, silver or valuable coins....

He had described it as being one and a half tobacco tins full of mixed foreign coins.

Anyway, I get there, and he says "sorry, its not as many as I thought, you might like to rethink your offer" and I says, "Okay, well you paid £8 at auction for them, how about I give you £15 that still gives you a fair profit" and he says "okay". And the deal is done....

Look what I found among the numerous Guernsey 8 double coins, Victorian Jersey 1/12th of a shillings, the silver Indian 1907 half Rupee etc:

How happy am I?

Should I tell him? I don't think so..... X-D

Ooh, a nice Puffin. Ah well now, it'd have been worth it at 20 quid too. I'd say you lucked out there!

It's a token coin innit?

You wouldn't want to swap it for a French 1980 20 Centime would you?  ;)
well done matt!!! good deal :8D

It is classed as a token. I have considered your offer, and feel at this time I must decline  0:)

Erm, yes I feel a little sorry for him as he buys and sells lots of junk and has no idea about coins - he thinks he stripped all the silver out, but he didn't! I have found a Straits settlement 50c 1907, and various old silver British India coins as well, one rupee, half rupee and quarter rupee. Even a Swedish silver coin. I guess he only knows about old British silver coins.

Matt, I'm starting to respect you more than I ever wanted to. Congratulations on your fantastic 'win'. If the guy doesn't know...there you go. I bought a cardboard roll of shillings...around 30 Scottish 1961 shillings and then 9 Scottish 1959 shillings. I bought them for £3! From an Antiques shop! They are uncirculated but a little dirty.

Er, I'm not sure how to take that?

Matt,
Is that a 1929 Puffin? Can we see the obverse? What is the value of that compared to the later, rarer, issues? I have a 1929 Half Puffin but it didn't occur to me that it might be worth anything.
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

It's a 1929. Do a search for them online and see what people are paying.
