I had an acquaintance ask if l would be interested in this lot of mint sets. I am not really interested if anyone wants these l can work the deal. What is this lot worth?
Thanks
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
Surprisingly little. The sets with silver coins command a nice premium and are a pretty good buy but the regular sets can be bought all day long for less than $10.
It's a sad testament to the overproduction by the mint that these sets are worth less than their business strike cousins. That's just crazy, the idea of proof sets is that they are premium coins made with the greatest of care and should be highly prized items. The mint sure killed that market! I'm guessing that nobody in their management team ever learned about the goose that laid golden eggs.
I bought a similar lot a long time ago thinking the values would rise as they got older, ten or more years later they are still worth the same. I guess I'll be passing them on to Abby.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.
