Which American woman should be on the $20.00 bill?

There has recently been an American movement called "woman on 20s" or "w20" which proposes to replace Andrew Jackson's portrait with a woman's on the 20 dollar bill. I realize that the only choice Americans may have in this, which has been slated to start in 2020, is which American woman will it be.

Some support the likeness of Eleanor Roosevelt or Harriet Tubman, but my choice is Marilyn Monroe. If Marilyn were to adorn the 20 dollar bill, it would become a collector's item. We need some currency with some zest to it.
Native american woman on a dollar bill would be cool
I did think of that, but we already have Sacagawea on the $1 dollar coin.
The US treasury has actually decided to put a woman on the $10 in 2020, removing Alexander Hamilton (the 1st Secretary of Treasury and founder of the National Bank), instead of Andrew Jackson (who vetoed the continued charter the National Bank).

Ironic.

I voted for Rachel Carson while voting was still open. But I feel that there is strong support to see an African-American woman grace the front of the $10.
Rachel Carson would be a good choice.
Just redesign all denominations, none of them look good.
Yeah, US coinage and currency went horribly awry when they started putting Presidents and other politicians and founding fathers on them. Though I have a soft spot for the Ben Franklin Half Dollar, nothing beats the Mercury (Winged Liberty) Dime, Walking Liberty Half and Peace Dollar (I have a thing for art deco style).

Agreed! America used to produce gorgeous banknotes prior to the introduction of the Federal Reserve notes. I read somewhere they were actually designed to be miniature works of art with the dual purpose of being banknotes and also bringing fine art to people isolated on the frontier. I don't know if it's true or not but it's an appealing story and some of the earliest notes are indeed striking in their design.

The problem with trying to put anyone on the currency for purely symbolic reasons is that those making the decisions have nothing in common with the other 99% of us. Susan B Anthony.... who dat?

Given the current decline of America I think it should be a toss up between one of those awful Kardashian sluts or whatever Bruce Jenner is calling him/her self this week.

For all of the above reasons I'd be more in favour of an abstract figure representing what used to be great about America. Lady Liberty has always been a popular motif, or perhaps something representing the constitution.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

No matter if it would be a $10 or a $20. You were speaking about an Afro-American woman, right? Why not Rosa Parks?

No offense to anyone but nowdays it feels like 80% of americans have no general knowlege whatsoever (not seen any in numista and there are stupid people in europe too but less) so I think that what you need is new educational series for notes.

They should make new notes that portrait the world map because I'm really tired of hearing "europe is not a country!? Lol wtf omg" or "so you have always snow in finland because you're in the north like canada?" and "are there polar bears in finland/sweden/canada/england?"

Well, there are polar bears in northern Canada, about 60% of polar bears live in Canada. But actually I was only joking about Marilyn Monroe being on the twenty dollar bill.
Maybe it time to take people off are money. Go back to how it was. Art and places.
It is, what it is, or is it.
There are polar bears from where I was born, in the US...lol :o
There you go put a female polar bear on the ten.
edit we have had reports of a black bear in the north part of the city. There put a female black bear on the ten.
It is, what it is, or is it.
Something like this?
yes
It is, what it is, or is it.
Nice :)

There are many African-American women who deserve to be recognize. Rosa Park, Harriet Tubman, Maya Angelou, Shirley Chisom, to name a few.

I have to admit I am of the opinion that only allegorical personages (Liberty and others) should be portrayed on our currency and coinage. There are too many people who have done wonderful things to be singled out on currency and usually singling one person out means that someone else is slighted.
A bear is a good ideal. Teddy Roosevelt wanted the grizzly bear to be our national symbol. But Rachel Carson is still not a bad ideal. If a black woman is chosen, how about Marian Anderson?

Couldn't agree more!
Here's a great article about the old notes:

Here is a more fuller information on the subject. I am so glad Jackson is somewhat out. I, personally, didn't want Hamilton removed, being a New Yorker and the father of the modern treasury...

They should have gone for someone like Amelia Earhart. Not only was she a pioneer in her field, but she also embodied the spirit of adventure that America pride themselves on....also it could mean that the bill could have had cool pictures of old planes as well.
