1964 US quarter, identify variety help please

5 posts
Seen several varieties, including one called a sms special strike.

The coin looks like a proof quality coin to me, but it has no mirror, no frosting, but the arrows denote that it may be a proof variety. It looks very smooth and creamy kind of, very odd compared to my others I have.  If someone with knowledge on US coins could help me out I would appreciate it.

Here are tons of pics.

1964 SMS Quarters are very rare and only a few are known. You can compare your coin with these, http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/CoinImages.aspx?s=5974&redir=t

Also all SMS Strikes were minted in Philadelphia Mint (Without mint Mark) and your's is Denver mint.

I have read they were also in Denver, with a C reverse.

Did you mean "D" for Denver?

As far as i know the SMS (Special Mint sets) were issued officially between 1965 till 1967, instead of Proof sets. However in 1964 some were issued maybe as a trial for the sets for coming years. All the 1964 SMS coins that are found so far don't have any mint mark (So maybe issued from PA or mint mark was removed).
